The hunting/fishing thread!

Last year was the first year I processed my own deer, and I threw together a sketchy hoist from a bed frame that had been recycled for a tractor mounted weight lifting rack. It kinda worked, but one of the two halves (of the weight rack) folded like a cheap suit and the other had a lot of flex and threatened to do the same with a lighter deer.

This week I decided to beef up my wimpy hoist.

Materials list: 🤣
One bedframe re-recycled from a weight rack
Two random pieces of rebar from ???
One length of flat stock recycled from a stake that held a little bridge in place over a ditch in our back 40.

I'll probably end up shooting 40 lb deer from now on. 😭
We attached one to our garden fence 🙈

Two down today, but I only got a picture of the one. We got off to a late start, didn't find this pair until mid day, but managed to get them both after a bit of tracking. Saw one other late in the afternoon. After taking waaay too long to get it out of the block of timber it went into (it kept circling), one of the guys hit it, but we couldn't track it down in time, it got into some really thick cedars and we had to pull the plug. Strangely, we ended up seeing it two more times way off in the concession while we were leaving the area.

Got up to chase coyotes, but I'm thinking the others are going to pull the plug. No sense of adventure. 😒
I had to laugh at this part. I've been in the woods freezing my butt off before and thought, "Well, at least I'm having an adventure..." 😂 One of my favorite things about a fresh snowfall is walking around and seeing all the tracks of animals and birds and trying to ID them.

Lo and behold, we did get out today. I started checking the back roads for tracks before they were plowed, but the taco was a champ once again. We found one pair of good tracks, and from that and a lot of walking thru a foot of snow, one coyote. I didn't break out the snowshoes, but maybe should have. Two other guys wore them and thought it was a bit easier going.
