Just because the eggs didn't develop doesn't mean that they were infertile. It just means that the cells didn't divide. Sometimes it's shipping, sometimes it's incubator conditions. This time of year, most breeders are incubating eggs out of the same pens that they sell hatching eggs out of. If they are doing well on the farm, there is no reason why a breeder would suspect a fertility problem in their flocks. I understand the pain, though. I've spent a lot of money on eggs that didn't work out for me. We all take the same risk.Really sucks looking at $200.00 worth of non firtile eggs sitting in the garbage. It really sucks and I will never order shipped hatching eggs again.

I'm sorry, that sucks. I've purchased birds from him before and I doubt quite seriously that he sold you infertile eggs. I am sure he hatches them himself, and would know if he had fertility issues. I don't trim my orp butts, but I have pretty good fertility.... About 85-95%. I don't buy expensive hatching eggs anymore myself though, and I don't like to sell them either. If I can, I buy chicks, it's cheaper in the long run. For some reason everyone always wants eggs though. I guess it is the same reason the casinos are doing so well eh?I asked for just some reimbursement trying to be reasonable. I expected maybe 50% hatch rate, but 0% is a nightmare. Money down the drain. I sent him a refund request of $100.00 which is only half. I would be happy to receive that just to put it towards some live chicks. Now I'm selling my new unused chainsaw and boot to try to afford some live chicks.
Out of all of the eggs I've bought over the years, I've never requested any kind of compensation. That being said, I did ask for some kind of refund when I ordered chicks from a breeder and I was sent seriously off colored sports that were nowhere close to being what I paid for. In that case, I paid for purebred birds and got mutts. I never got any kind of refund. Yeah...I'm obviously still bitter about that one.
