Gimpy could manage without a prosthesis but I think he would appreciate something to stand on so as not to put too much pressure on his good leg. Usually my featherless chickens have sweaters but with this nice red heat lamp, I'm finding it unnecessary except when they are out exploring the house.
I'm interested to see if he does adapt to having a useful appendage. He's never had two functional legs so I wonder if his brain is 'wired' to use a prosthesis.
It's a problem I'm considering theoldchick. He has held that leg out & behind him all his life & does so with the stump for the most part. I'll have to teach him to walk properly again once I have the prosthesis on.
He ate & drank well all day but has a temperature & doesn't feel great tonight which is to be expected so I've been calling up vets & will put him on painkilling & antibiotic injections in a few minutes.
