The incubator I just built

Really nice and clean build, Strader... Congrats!!

One question... I see there's (what I think is) an restrictor in the water hose coming from the bucket... Is that how you keep the water tray always topped?... I mean, you fine tune the restrictor so it's always feeding just the right amount of water, at the same rate it evaporates?...

Again, awesome build!!

Cheers

I'm pretty sure he bought the pan and bucket system as parts from GQF. That is a float valve system that works quite well. Trying to "tune" the flow to match the evaporation rate is a recipe for disaster, IMO.

Oh... Didn't knew that was a store bought system, using an float.

Looking at that kind of restrictor (it's normally used to really fine tune an flow), it was the first thought that came to mind...

As stated that is an as is store bought system. What you may be thinking is a restrictor is actually a coupling allowing the two hoses to be disconnected from each other. The other part above the coupling is a shut off clamp so that the water does not all drain out of the bucket when the hose is disconnected. The float valve is inside the water tray.

I use distilled water in mine because my house water is "hard" and tends to plug off the float valve.

There is two little plastic units on the water hose, one is a large white clip that the hose feeds thru( used for clamping hose shut) and the other little unit below it in the line is actually a quick disconnect. what you do is when water is low in the 5 gallon bucket you crimp the hose with the shut off clip, then push the gray tab on the quick disconnect and take 5 gallon bucket to get more water. reconnect when you sit bucket back on top. Kit ran $50.00. The GQF humidity tray inside that holds the water has a float in it that automatically shuts water off a 1 inch height in the tray. looks like a swamp cooler float to me. Could make one now after seeing it. The kit came with a blue hose and I changed it to a clear hose so I could actually be able to see water level.
