Thanks!! We love him, he is such a sweetieI just saw this thread, he is so cute! I'm so glad you rescued him!
we live in a very small town, a few years ago someone let out a few of their rabbits and somehow they have thrived, they are everywhere(they live under sheds). The thing is none of them have long hair and they are not dwarf size but not nearly as large as a New Zealand either, so I guess a medium sized breed? If he turns out to be long haired then I would say someone in town had a sick litter and dumped them instead of caring for them. He was found in my in-laws yard, a few streets down from us. Edit: I am pretty sure he is one of the "wild" ones though, there are 4 others in my in-laws yard (3 white 1 black) but they are all healthy and afraid of people.Im kind of puzzeled about how he came to be out to be rescued. He's a long hair of some type, probably a mix, but they typically dont survive long outside. Escapee from a neighbor? Or are there a lot of drop offs in your area?
Cottonball weighed 15.4oz this morning, getting close to a pound! He will be roughly 6 weeks old in 2 daysThe vet mentioned that he may be a dwarf breed, any thoughts? His growth has been pretty steady these last few weeks, but I am not sure how big he should be if he would weigh 4 or 5 pounds full grown.
Thank you so much! For some reason I was having a hard time finding sites to help. I appreciate itI found two webpages with rabbit weights/ages.
This one's for Miniature Lops, a dwarf breed:
https://www.miniaturelops.com/mini-lop-weights/
(weights are in ounces, mature weight is 52 ounces = 3 1/4 pounds)
And this one is for meat rabbits, where the adults are 7 pounds and over:
https://homesteadrabbits.com/meat-rabbit-growth-rates/
(weights are in pounds)
I see that the Mini Lops are 22 ounces at 2 months, while the meat rabbits are at least 4 pounds (= 64 ounces) at 8 weeks.
So I think your bunny is probably a small breed of some kind.
