Hey everyone! We are the Key Family! From Northwest Arkansas.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We just got our first chicks last week. This will be our first flock. My wife has been begging for years and I gave in when I went to the coop for some weed control and fertilizer. One for a new hobby and 2 it has been taking my mind off of the craziness in the world today. We are currently at 9 chickens and a ginnie. The we had 2 ginnies but one died the day after we got her, we have friends with a ginnie flock who have agreed to take it so it can be with others of it's kind. And we were told that they dont don't do well with all chicks. We have (I think I've got the breeds right) A black sexlink
A brown foghorn
2 sapphires
A feather foot
2 easter Eggers
And I cant remember the breed of the last one.

I'm excited about the new hobby, the eggs and the pest control. With chickens and 3 kids, I dont think I'll have much time for any other hobbies. But I like to woodwork so I am building my coop myself.

I am a fireman and my wife is an EMT. So we have been pretty busy with this virus stuff going around. We are excited to be part of this community and I have already written down several things I want to do like build an elevated brooder box so we can access the chickens from the side, add enrichment activities for the chicks and a few other odds and ends. This community seems to be a plethora of information. If anyone has any starters advice please share!
