The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

How are the KCs for meat? And which breed is the best for eggs?
I've already posted this and no one answered so I will try again. I keep hearing that ducks are messy and I would like for someone to tell me what messy is referring to, like messy with their feed, make a mess with feces in the pen, scatter stuff everywhere or whatever messy is referring to. I guess I am used to chickens and to some they are messy I guess.

You just named most of the messy. Plus add water to the mess! And add mud! I've never slaughtered a KC. Too small. However, they are my best layers.

I want to ask you folks something, and I will be blunt- Do you like your ducks more than your chickens? And what breeds of ducks seem to be the most popular and what purpose/purposes do those breeds offer? I'm just not finding much info on ducks and most folks around here that have them have Pekins or Muscovy, so the other breeds aren't mentioned much in my conversations. Thanks
I never dream`d that I would be having poultry. Never had a reason because I was in to equine instead.
When I found out the people that are allergic to chicken eggs, can eat Duck eggs . That is when I wanted to buy duck
eggs. I could not find a reliable source of duck eggs so I had to get ducks of my own just for the eggs.
The only reason is for the duck eggs, but I am really enjoying my ducks. I have 4 Swedish Mix, 1 Indian Runner & 1 Khake Campbell. I have only had them 2 months and have been doing a crash course in ducks. I have eaten Duck mean in the past but the ones that I have are not very meaty so I have no desire to eat my own ducks.

The water seem to be the biggest issue. They have to have water available when they eat. They have to have water to wash their face, nostrils , and eyes.Or they will loose their health. They require bathing in water to keep clean so they can preen their feathers. They can handle the cold very well better then chickens. No plans to be eating my egg laying ducks.

I am now able to say I have a Khaki Campbell. Picked her up today. She'll be in quarantine for a while, gonna check with the vet in the morning.

More soon, including photo's.

Right now, she just needs to settle in.

Thanks, caesargirl

Yeah, she gets her quack on, although, this morning she was very good, and I am super stoked about that. I usually try to ignore them if I don't think the neighbours will notice, just to try and get them used to us waking up at a more reasonable hour.... it seemed to work before we got this one.
