She is very horizontal huh. Awesome looking duck though, reminds me of our beloved late Pekin, that KC is so dark, it's fantastic! Our boy is so light for a KC, we figure he must be crossed with something lighter, He has angel wing, but he seems to function fine with it, it does nothing to stifle his enthusiasm.

I know this is an old thread but I'm brining it back ;) here my hen cross (idk why she looks like a male but she's female she lays greenish eggs) Hershey Kiss

She is the most goregrous duck I ever saw I figure she must be a pekin/khaki cross because her feathers in the back are white. I'm. Not sure who the father/mother is because one day a duckling just showed up with the rest of the flock (wehave a 60acre pond so lots if nesting places) following a pekin female.
Here's her feathers

Don't mind that pekin he photo bombed my shot thinking he was gonna get food

How are the KCs for meat?  And which breed is the best for eggs?
I've already posted this and no one answered so I will try again.  I keep hearing that ducks are messy and I would like for someone to tell me what messy is referring to, like messy with their feed, make a mess with feces in the pen, scatter stuff everywhere or whatever messy is referring to.  I guess I am used to chickens and to some they are messy I guess.

I don't eat my KC's they're pets, not great layers (mine aren't) they are very messy and skittish, but I have one who follows me wherever I go. If u want good layers get jumbo pekins. Good meat I don't know because I would never eat a duck ;)

Quote: I have only had my ducks for 3 months. The Khake hen was 1 year old and already laying. As the Khake hen get older she can slow up in her egg laying. What I have read ,they are the best egg layer up to 5 years old and then they will slow down some. But they also need the right nutrient`s in their diet . for the egg shells. I got my mix of ducks for eggs only but they have turned into pets.

I love my chickens, they all have different personalities...ducks are the clowns of the flock. They way they "discuss" everything amoung themselves, and yack yack yack. They will stand and watch the chickens, but i swear they are gossipibg about the chickens! Ducks are a hoot! And the waddle flap run is hilarious! I have two Roeun hens, and three Khaki Campbells. All hens.

Rouens are great for meat and eggs, the KC are smaller birds, but prolific layers. I get KC eggs every day.
