The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

We lost one of our ducklings last night. So now we just have the one. They are Khaki Campbells. I found that out finally. I will be getting a buddy or two for the little one we still have.

I just found out last night from where we purchased our ducks that they are in fact Khaki Campbells. They are about 7 weeks old as of now but they are so timid and every time I stick my hand in to either add feed or change out their water they do everything they can to run from me. Any suggestions on how to get them to warm up to us any? The photo posted is when they were 4 weeks old.

Khakis are normally skittish birds. Always move slowly around them and approach their brooding area slowly. A sudden appearance by a tall human scares them as they think you might be a predator. There is a good chance they will always act that way. Mine let me get within 3 feet of them when I have food but keep their distance otherwise usually keeping 10 feet or so distant. Mine never liked being handled.

It is very important to get your little one companionship as soon as possible and of the same age or nearly the same age (equally important). Have you got a little cuddly animal with your lone duckling right now?

I have 7 crazy EE pullets with him. They are all 3 weeks old. They have been together from the start. He thinks he is a chicken.

We had bought two ducklings at the local feed store and my husband (who didn't want them in the first place) decided we needed to buy more! lol so we have 5 more that are coming to us on Thursday!!

He is sneezing a bit, what could that be? It just started today. He acts fine otherwise. Here he is with the girls

Hard to say, ducks can be hard to diagnose. Do his eyes droop at all and is he having difficulty breathing? I would get some electrolytes in his water right away and also give him some nutri-drench. You can get both at the feed store.

PS - Are you feeding the same feed you feed the chicks? If it is medicated chick feed that could be the culprit. Ducks have different protein and niacin requirements than chickens and medicated chick feed can be harmful to ducks.
