The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

Do ducks do okay in a group of 2 or do they do better with 3 ???? AND if you introduce another breed of duck when they are all 1 wk old will they segregate the different duck as adults?

We currently have a mixed flock, mallards, khakis and a runner. They all get along but I feel that it may just be personality. The two mallards stay to themselves and the little runner, poor baby, just follows around because he didn't have duck friends for a long time. As far as I know its just fine to mix breeds.

thank you for answering my question. A friend said I should get 1 more just in case something happened to one of them.

OK, I have a ?, is it acceptable to not have a Drake or is that bad? I have 3 females, diff breeds. I wanted them for pets & eggs, but I didn't want to have ducklings.

By 5 thru 8 wks, you should also be hearing voice changes. Just look at bill color, listen carefully to "voice " sounds , make your best guess ... But really the only real definitive way is wait for either an egg or a drake feather. :/Sorry.

I have two adult ducks currently, they have been together since I brought them home at 2-3 weeks. A Pekin and a Swedish, and they are BFFs.

My girls have done just fine. My Pekin is an awesome layer, 6 eggs a week.

Mine only make noise when they startle, and then - as my husband put it - they sound like a box full of puppies. Very yippy. Bill color I'd currently call caramel with a chocolate colored bean. Legs the same color as the bill. Still not fully feathered but I think I have the darker variety? I know my Pekin quacked constantly, but my Swedish was much quieter...so much so in fact I was sure she was a drake without the feather until she laid an egg at around 30 weeks old.

WOW !!!! YOU GO !!! Thanks for answering all our questions... I just notice Francis & Dolly like to cuddle so much more than chickens. we have put in 2 stuffed animals in their pen. 1 under the heat lamp the other away and a fun little box. They are housed in a 4x4 pen. We put them in it last night and they look so tiny in this BIG space ... I was going go cave and get 1 more duck. But I think not now LOL.
