The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

We put our khakis out with their smaller neighbors the Mallards. They kinds shoved each other around for about 10 minutes then it was back to dinner

hopefully they will follow to the big pin today, as I plan to make a little night shelter house for them to get inside today.

Brand new to ducks. I have 4 KC and 2 pekin that are about a week old now. They're still really skittish about me. Anytime I walk into the garage they scatter inside the brooder and all pile up in the corner. I've spent some time talking to them in the evenings, and when I do water/food changes. Anything I can do to help the little duckies mellow a bit?

Pekin is supposedly a friendlier breed but perhaps they're taking cues from the KCs? My Campbell's never really warmed up to me, and the older they get the less they'll even take treats from my hands.

I'd say I haven't worked hard enough at it, but my production-red chickens I've handled the same way and they all come when they're called and are reasonably tolerant of being picked up and petted.

I'm trying to get another batch of KCs so I may try a bit harder to get them friendly or at least teach them to follow me. I'll update here if I have any success.

Also wondering what's a "minimum" size duck flock for them to be happy? I have some boys that need to go and I don't want the remainder to be overly stressed.

these look my females and i had 3 males very similar coloring of yours .......i was told they were mallard, crossed with a buff...I have a buff Khaki with the mallard females now so maybe they will cross, my females are laying a very light blue egg...but not sitting on them yet

Thanks. It is so hard when they have main characteristics of one but the few missing changes everything. Their coloring is brown but their heads are black. Only one has a green beak. They are only two months old and I am trying determine male/female but have no clue.
Here is what they looked like at one week and a couple closer shots. They are very skidish even though they know me well and they don't quack a lot yet.

I got my ducklings to eat from my hand very briefly today. I think it was only because they were hungry (first feeding of the day) because if I even flinched a little bit, they'd run off in a panic. Makes me kinda sad that they're so scared. I just don't have the time to sit with them for hours in a day; I try to spend some time in the morning and then again in the evening when I do water checks and food checks and all that.
