The khaki-Campbell duck Thread !!!!!!!!

I sure can. That will be around the first of the year. I just started thinking about that because I walked out there and found drakes fighting. Too much testosterone in the coop.
Unless you plan on breeding them, I would just pick the friendliest ones

Hi,
It's time to pick my top drake and 2nd top drake for my flock of khakis. Does anyone know what the breed standard is or where I can find it?

Here's a pic for fun.

If you wish to breed to the Khaki Campbell breed standard you will probably have to purchase a copy from the association. They don't post their standard of perfections online, as that would negate the need to purchase the book and I believe their are also copyright infringements if it was published online. You can contact the American Poultry Association, Murray McMurray, Strombergs or etc, if you wish to purchase a copy.

If you are just breeding for egg production and not to the standard of perfection, you may wish to do as Bills vs Beaks, suggested and just pick the friendliest two. :)

Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy your ducks.

Thank you, Amiga! I do feed all those things except the tumeric (which I am starting). It looks like she may be starting to molt now!

Help! I have a new, worse problem. One of my younger females (15 weeks) is lame. I am guessing it is her hips because I can't find anything obviously wrong with her (no bumblefoot). She was struggling to get up yesterday and this morning. I helped her spend the day in the pool and hoped the water time would help her heal. When I went to put them up for the night, a few minutes ago, she was worse. She had gotten herself out of the pool but could not stand at all. I have given them Brewer's yeast in there food since they hatched so I think it must be an injury. Any ideas? This is her last week

Hi all, I was thinking of getting some khaki Campbell's in the spring, but I know nothing about them, can some of you help me out? Are they a good breed? Friendly? (I don't want them for meat, just pets)

I have 4 full Khaki Campbell's and 1 one half Khaki/ half Appleyard. They are very nice, pretty, lovable ducks. I kept mine in my classroom (I teach high school Biology) when they were little so they are very tame. They quack excitedly when they hear me coming and eat treats out of my hand. They tolerate being picked up, but I don't think they like it. I got them as pets with the hope that they would eat the snails and slugs in my garden and give me a few eggs. My garden is now slug free but they also ate a few plants along the way. My family has come to really like eating the eggs. My oldest female started laying in July and has given me an egg almost every day since. My others girls are still too young. My only complaint is their size. I wanted smaller ducks because we just have an ordinary, subdivision backyard and I figured they would fit better. I did not realize that being smaller gives them a slightly greater risk of being attached by an owl or hawk. I had a Cooper's hawk sitting on my fence eyeing them two days ago. If I could do it over again I might get Welsh Harlequins which were bred from Khaki Campbells. They are a little bigger.
You might want to read, Duck Eggs Daily, by Lisa Steele or Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks, by Dave Holderead, they both give the pros and cons of the different breeds. Good luck!

I'm in Texas and having the same weather, right now its 45 degrees Fahrenheit, foggy and raining

Cold and rainy is so much fun. At least the ducks don't seem to mind. I have a son at Baylor, if that is any where near to you.
I just read your other post about the crested duck you lost and you obviously know a lot about ducks already. Sorry if my other post implies that you did not. I should have realized that you were just comparing breeds.

Yes my duck loves the rain, especially the puddles

And yes I was just comparing breeds, I'm getting some more ducks in the spring (Blue Swedish, Indian runner, magpie, cayuga, saxony and more buff orpingtons) and was thinking about adding khaki campbell's to the list

I had Welsh Harlequins on the list but where I will be ordering from does not carry them, but I still want them very badly so I may just have to order out of state, even though I don't like the idea of that.

Even though This is my first time with ducks I love ducks so much, feels like I've had mine forever

Oh and I'm actually 6+ hours away from Baylor
