The kids and I processed our very first chicken!!

We bought 8 chicks this spring to raise for eggs....little did I know 3 of them were meaties--OOPS! I finally decided I was going to have to butcher the three instead of raise them like the others. It took some courage (I teared up a little) but the kids and I finally processed our very first chicken today! We used a milk jug to hold her in and my 6 year old son held her feet while my 4 year old twins held the jug and we slit her throat. They all helped me pluck feathers and we went through all the insides...they even took their gloves off to feel everything. What a great experience! Here are a couple pics.....

Looks tasty!! I can imagine that in the crock pot would be pretty good.
 
May I ask -- how old was that bird. It looks very meaty. You said you got it this spring -- to me, that means within the last 8 weeks, roughly.

Do they really grow that fast?
