The Kitchen Table - come sit with us! new request added to post 1!

My place of solace is a few places,..depending on the time of year and weather.
In the summer its my backyard either in my swing or in my pool, reading a book and watching my pigs and chickens and geese roam the yard and be content. It just makes me happy inside to watch them..
Also, on a boat, i LOVE being on the water... its so relaxing. A book, the sun warming me, and the gentle motion of the boat.. *sigh*
I also like to take my dogs for a walk to the end of my road to the river and fish.

In the winter, my retreat is my bedroom,.. I have a pretty big room, with a bedroom and a sort-of living room combined... i just hang out in my recliner and watch my favorite t.v shows and read and browse BYC.. I sort of become a recluse in the winter time.. I HATE being cold..

Good that you get to spend time with your chickens. I bet they love it when you unearth the wiggly snacks! How did your weekend go? Has spring arrived in Oregon?

I really wanted to spend some time in the yard this weekend, but ended up riding the bike more than I was planning. I rode nearly 70 miles, and got the house clean, but did absolutely nothing in the yard.My chickens frequently see me after dark, so it's mostly a head count and egg collection until the weekend. Pretty sure I owe them some quality time.

It's raining in Oregon, so it's either Winter or Spring! It will be nice for a week, then it'll rain for a week which really gets us in the mood to work in the yard and plant the garden, but the weeds are growing too. The only thing that's green right now is the grass, dandelions and the blackberry vines, although some of the trees are starting to sprout leaves! It rains here on the coast up to July 4th, then we have the nice weather.

I HATE being cold..
HOLY MACKEREL!! I just realized how many posts you have.

You got me thinking about floating on boats now. Good memories of childhood...

I hate being cold, too. That reminds me, time to put a log in the woodstove....

Boats are sooooo not my thing, I'm a bit of a Jonah!
My biggest pleasure is walking through some of the many forests we have here with the dogs. The Forestry Commission are excellent at making trails and paths and putting things of interest along the way. I can walk for hours with just my music to keep me company, usually I don't meet another soul which is just the way I like it!
Also a hot bath, scented candles and a glass of wine will make me a happy bunny too!

Oh yikers! This is how I end up away from BYC for so long. Work gets in the way of fun!

Vicki, we have lots of open space here too, but can't really call it forests in most of California. We mostly have a lot of grassland with an occasional oak tree. What kind of interesting things does the Forestry Commission put along the way? Exercise stations? Public art?

That bath is sounding like a tremendous idea. I think it's the candles and wine that make it sound so inviting.

Argghh! It's getting late here, and I can't respond to everyone right now. I'll check back tomorrow. I have another note to post.....

John, I hope my blackberry vines get a move on! I miss those things. So do the chickens.

Note # 38 - What are your spring garden plans? Have you started yet?

I'm determined to plant a garden this year. I'm re-purposing the chicken tractor, and using it as a temporary greenhouse, and then protection from the chooks and deer. I don't have any plants yet, but need to work on the foundation under the tractor this weekend. I've also got two avocado trees to plant (which will need a wire cage for deer protection) and a third variety on order. I love, love, love avocados, and am excited at the prospect of getting a grove of trees going.

Okay, so I'll talk to myself!

I built the knee wall to my garden enclosure yesterday. I used old chunks of concrete and built it up about 2 feet. Now I have to put the chicken tractor on top and cover it with plastic to make a little greenhouse. (It's one of those hoop houses, but not tall enough for me to stand up in.)

I'm adding another note. Catch up! I'm waiting....

Note #39 - Do you have any plans this year that are particularly exciting to you?

My middle son is getting married this summer, so I'm getting pretty excited about that! He and his fiancee are getting married in an old historic house in a town nearby. Family is flying in from all over the country It will be quite a celebration!

Looks like I can't use smileys from outside BYC anymore. Does anyone know how to use them? There must be a trick. Also, can you still type a code to get a smiley, or do you have to use your mouse to click on the icon above? I'm a little behind in learning all this. Help!!

Hi Orp!

Maybe the smiley thing has to do with your computer??? I just click on the smiley on the icon list and take it from there...

I've been busy just starting my seedlings: 3 different kinds of tomatoes, (six plants in all) 4'oclocks, petunias (wave) zinnia, cardoon, green beans, marigolds, nasturtium, Luffa, cosmos, zucchinia, birdhouse gourds, lemon basil, catnip

gotta make everyone happy.

I'm doing good, glad to hear that you are too!! I'm drumming in a tribal group drum circle, kayaking and sewing. I like hiking too, so we'll see. DH can't do that now, so it's just me and my twin sister or I go by myself.

Wow, congrats on the wedding!

Spring garden? Nope. The chickens eat everything green and budding! LOL!
I only plant cherry tomatoes in hanging pots. I love to walk by and smell the plants! My MIL talks about going out in the tomato field and just sitting and enjoying the smell and I understand now! It's way too cold here right now, in fact, we are getting sleet/hail this morning and there's talk about possibly getting some snow!

Summer plans? I'm hoping for a rip roaring wildfire season so I can go out and make some money. The last two years my Team didn't go out at all.
