The Kitchen Table - come sit with us! new request added to post 1!

Morning people... EC grabs chair... is the kettle on???? tis now 3.39am here....

OK must answer questions......... No I have never had an unconventional job.... as I am unconventional anyway.... nor could I wrestle an alligator.... but I can wrestle a £20 note out of my husbands wallet quicker than the blink of an eye! .... does that count?

My most treasuered tools..... I have two.... my battery powered screwdriver and my battery powered tape measure..... could not be without them... opps and my trusty sharp string etc cutting knife.... so that makes three.....

Went to the Wernlas Collection with Lynsey... rather disappointed in the set=up, I thought after seeing their website that it would be more "chicken touristy" but that was not to bee..... there was dozens and dozens and dozens of arks (tractors) set out in the fields many of which where greatly n need of repair.... but the birds themselves looked healthy enough.... the fields where very roung to walk especially forthis old snail of a woman... hobble hobble!... full of holes and mole hills..... but I made it.... however I should never evr ver go near chick houses... I was smitten and came home with six Brahma babies who are in my office in a big terrerium and chirping away merriily...

I did take my camera but did not think the set up warranted pics... I know tht you would have been disappointed... so my search for rare breeds continues... all theirs at the Wernlas had been ordered for the whole season!... grrrrrr.... I must find Vorweks and Sultans.. I must I must I must....

Any typos in this post is down to Angus.... he keeps trying to catch my fingers and sit on the keyboard... he is also fascinated with the chicks!.........

What's a battery powered tape measure?

I think the wrestling of a 20 pound note is not an occupation as much as it is a hobby or skill.

While I love my Dewalt cordless drill, I have to say the pneumatic stapler is my favorite to use. It means the runs are going up which means the new coop must be mostly done.

My folks gave me an air tank for Christmas so I can staple to my heart's content.

I spent the day at the parents' house. My sister and nieces were there as well. About an hour into the visit niece #3 showed up and we determined that she had pink eye. Yay! Highly contagious Pink Eye. Sis hauled all the kids back home and the rest of us went on a hand washing frenzy. Fingers crossed that the pink eye will stay away.

I met a delightful new BYCer and sold her my extra buff silkie roo. She was super nice and pleased as punch with his highness. His highness had complained the whole way out there and was pretty cranky at his dog crate confinement. I think he also learned to crow this morning. I heard that funny little strangled baby doll sound that they make when they first start up. I think I insulted his manhood by throwing him into a crate after his enthusiastic display.

Tomorrow I will make newspaper pots and start my tomatoes and melons. I'll also start my potatoes and onions outside if the rain holds off. I am ready for spring!

What are y'all up to tomorrow?

Battery powered tape measure is invaluable as you need no one to hold the other end.... you just point it press the button and out comes the tape measure up to 16'.. press the button again and it slides right back in... fabby!.... they are heavy on your tool belt.... but every girl should have one....

I will take pics of my babies tomorrow.... I hope I can upload... got a bit confused, nothing new there then when photobukcet changed everything... but Ranchie assures me that I can upload direct onto BYC...

Dang cat is sitting in front of the chicks tank licking his lips!!!!! the moneky...

The Wernlas Collection sounds pretty interesting to me. There's nothing remotely like that around here.

I did go to an auction tonight and ended up bringing home 2 "Show Quality" bantam Rhode Island Red hens. They are set up in quarantine right now in my laundry room. They look healthy, but scared. Poor girls!

I went to a different auction last year, but I didn't like the way they were "man handling" the animals. The auction I went to tonight was much much smaller. The auctioneer didn't seem very knowledgable about the different breeds, but the people handling the animals actually were very gentle and took their time showing off the animals and putting them back in the crates they came in.

I want to go to a poultry show! The only problem is that there really aren't many shows around here. I wanted to go to Ohio Nationals in November, but didn't make it last time. I wish there were more poultry shows/events around here. I am very lucky to be close to where a Chickenstock will be held in May, though! Maybe we can start our own little club! Wouldn't that be fun!

Oooooo.... that battery powered tape measure sounds cool! The only thing better would be having a carpenter named Sven or Antonio hanging around holding the other end for me.

The pneumatic stapler is way fun. It makes putting up wire a lot less painful. My next project is quarter round baseboard trim. I'm horrible at swinging a hammer. I'm hoping the stapler will work just peachy fine.

Ok you have Sven... I'lll take Antonio!!!

Baseboard trim.... we call that skirting boards.... another good way of putting it up and far less mess is using "No Nail" adhesive... works a treat.... I now have woman size lightweight hammers.... in pink!!! and screwdrivers to match..... got to love my daughter.... they where a christmas present from Lynsey.......

I will need to get one of those staplers someday. I put up the chicken pen without one, and hit my thumb so hard with a hammer while trying to hold a fencing staple AND the wire that I lost my nail, and had a brutally sore thumb for weeks. It's been 8 1/2 months and my thumbnail is just now almost grown back. It hurt so bad that I couldn't even swear! (Seriously!)

EC, I like the sound of the battery powered tape measure, but I like the sound of Sven or Antonio better. CityGirl, that was dead on!

CityGirl, bad on the pink eye, good on the gardening! Tomorrow, I'm hoping to mow down the field of weeds, formerly known as my lawn. I also need to find a place to plant an orange tree. I want it in the front yard so when I go to work in the winter, I can pick one as I get in the car.

Chickylaura, excellent about the new RIRs. Pics??

Chicky... the birds themselves where lovely.... just the housing and the way everything was set up... the collection is famous... but I think they need to bring more staff in to run the place... thats all.....

Shows... I used to love showing my birds... we are very lucky here to have many poultry shows throughout the year. I am entering two of our local shows this summer... The Cheshire Show and the Nantwich Show... I wanted to enter last year but the swine flu got in the way... so this year off I shall go and will be showing eggs as well..... fingers crossed... I have won both shows in the past.....Have one beauty who I think I could be onto a winner with.... she is Susan my Sliver Pencilled Lacewing Wyandotte and she is a stunner... one of the nicest I have seen so far.. in fact they had them at the Wernlas and theirs where not a patch on my Susan.... Hoping that my Brahmas chicks will be big enough to enter also.... will also enter my Pekin Bantams (white and Lavender) and Purple Lacewing Bantam Wyandottes.....

Fingers crossed and roll on June.....
