I have one chick out (looks like a weird blue EE- Mom is a white/buff EE and dad is a blue ameraucana). All but three of the rest have pipped. YAY!!!! Go chickies!!

Should a black sex link female chick have any white on it's feathers? I we got what was supposed to be a black sex link and it has got white tips on it's feathers. It is kind of a silvery blackish gray compared to the other one that is VERY black with no white on it's feather tips.

I seriously love the movie "Sweet Home Alabama"....
 
Many black chickens, including black australorps will have white feathers as chicks but lose them as the grow older.

I have two hatched out now. One of them is a pure ameraucana. It looks blue, but has yellow toe tips, white on the face and chest and white wing tips. I'm thinking it has to be a splash with all that white? I've seen black ameraucanas and they have white chests initially. I've never seen it in a blue though? Weird. Interesting that you have the same thing going on with your Austrolorps. Be interesting to see what they turn into, eh?
 
Ooh, thanks for all the birthday wishes, everyone! I had a great day! I got to hear beautiful young voices sing in 4-part harmony. then, I got hugged by a whole classful of 4th graders while they sang Happy Birthday. Then, my music teacher colleagues made me a cake and sang at our staff meeting. Then, I got to spend the evening with my dad and step-mom having my dad's famous corned beef and cabbage dinner. I think I will turn 49 every day!!

eta - I forgot some other cool things that happened today..... I got to see Stravinsky's Rite of Spring performed live at UC Berkeley during my lunch hour. And it was FREE! Anywhere else and it would have cost me at least $50 to see that.

Then, I squeezed in a trip to my favorite salvage yard and scored all the bits and parts I needed to make my in-wall broom closet.
