The Kitchen Table - come sit with us! new request added to post 1!

Hi Opa!
frow.gif
Glad you're working, even if it's without David. Construction has been tough in this economy.

I haven't had much time to post either. The little time I've had to spend on BYC, I've been planning our Chickenstock. I still have mascot pics to upload, too.

and....
There are just a few weeks left to school, so madness abounds. Plus, my oldest DS is getting his PhD on May 21st, so we're all going up to Seattle for the "defense of the dissertation." (It sounds so formal!) Plus, I got a new roommie who is renting my youngest DS's room so I can afford to send him money for college. And wait, there's the new chicks! If all that wasn't enough, I started a sourdough mother, and now am practically a slave to bread baking. Tasty, but I'm going to have to tone it down somehow. Life is very rich, but it hasn't given me much time to play on BYC.

At least it's the weekend. I'm going to get that chicken tractor finished come hecky-do or highwater! The chicks need to start playing in the grass. It's so close!

Note #30 - What are your summer plans?

Other than taking/moving my daughter down to San Diego Christian College in August, I don't have any summer plans. My summer is usually spent waiting for my fire team to be sent on an assignment, usually in Washington state. The talk has been that this will be a bad summer for fires, which is a good thing for me. Now we just have to wait and see!

#30 - I don't have summer plans, I'm just going to work around the chemo treatments. Maybe juggle a weekend away here and there. Otherwise, just hanging around the old homestead.

#28 - I feel so bad about this:

just the other day I found a little song sparrow stuck in my bird netting that I have over my small pond. I think it tried to get a drink of water and got tangled and died. I should have pulled the netting off weeks ago, but just didn't.

#29 - Trying to get my gardens all set and cleaned up for the summer, and doing small projects around the house and chicken coop, so I can relax the rest of the summer!

Orp! When does school get out over there?

Hi Luna! medical stuff has a way of getting in the way of our plans. my doc warned of a possible *problem* that I will have to deal with this summer, so I have not planned anything big. that way if it takes the summer to recover, I'll just hang out with the chicks and read a book. if it turns out to be nothing, then I can find a project that takes a little more energy. either way, it's okay.

life has a way of happening no matter what we do. better to find the beauty and peace in every day.

I used to have a poem taped to my fridge. My grandmother sent it to me when I was a young mother. I don't remember the whole thing, but the last phrase has always stuck with me...

"It is folly to fight with the infinite
and go under at last in the wrestle.
A wiser man shapes into God's plan
like water shapes into a vessel."

OOHHH, COOL! I just found the whole thing on the internet. Gotta love Google!

Here it is....

As You Go Through Life

By Ella Wheeler Wilcox

Don't look for the flaws as you go through life
And even when you find them,
It is wise and kind to be somewhat blind
And look for the virtue behind them.
For the cloudiest night has a hint of light
Somewhere in its shadows hiding;
It is better by far to hunt for a star,
Than the spots on the sun abiding.

The current of life runs ever away
To the bosom of God's great ocean.
Don't set your force 'gainst the river's course
And think to alter its motion.
Don't waste a curse on the universe --
Remember it lived before you.
Don't butt at the storm with your puny form,
But bend and let it go o'er you.

The world will never adjust itself
To suit your whims to the letter.
Some things must go wrong your whole life long,
And the sooner you know it the better.
It is folly to fight with the Infinite,
And go under at last in the wrestle;
The wiser man shapes into God's plan
As water shapes into a vessel.

I never felt like it meant I couldn't put energy into making things happen. It just meant I shouldn't waste my energy being angry. Channel energy in positive directions!

eta - sorry to hear about the little sparrow. I felt so bad when I injured that little snake. My carelessness took a life. It's hard when we play a part in another being's demise.

That's lovely Orp.

Luna, your job is to stay strong and peaceful. Very sorry about the sparrow, such things are really distressing. But learn and move on.

Hiya Tiny!

here we get out on the 21st of June, and it is a half a day. I cannot believe we actually have to go in on a Monday for a half a day and then get out for the summer. A lot of people I know like to go a way right after school gets out, and the half a day just puts a kink in their plans.

What are your plans for the summer?

We really don't have anything planned yet, what with my Mom's breast cancer, and my oldest playing football and that starts at the end of July, we are kind of up in the air for now. I also have a big vegetable garden and when we go away for a week, it just seems to be a mess when we come back. Probably a lot of day trips or maybe a couple of weekends, but I don't think we will go away for a weeks vacation this year.

so, are you a firefighter? I don't think I knew that. Sounds dangerous and exciting all at the same time.
