I almost went with day old chicks because I could have gotten more but at this time of the year I figured it would be better to get a started pair. Plus since they're started, that means they should be laying by mid summer so I could squeeze out a batch of chicks before fall

Yup, that's why I usually get my peeps early in the year, I like to have them laying by late spring, early summer. Unfortunately, I've got to wait - sigh. The Legbars were ready, but the Basques weren't (lots on backorder) so now it's a waiting game. At least I've already got my first hatch done and second is just about ready for lockdown.

I have an extra cream legbar cockerel if anyone is interested. I am going to list him on BYC. He's a pretty boy but I just need one so I am letting the younger one go.



We have a little too much bickering between the Isbar and Legbar yards so one roo on each side needs to go.




My legbar girls are looking really good too! Now if they would just start laying!

That's great news! Mine was a little slow to start laying - so I gave them some treats and vitamins to give them a kick start.

Then to make things worse... I am having a 5 to 1 male favored ratio.....

So it looks like my started pair of cream legbars will be shipped on the 13th! I am rather excited, that means I will be able to hatch some chicks from them this year

I just wanted to share some pics of a couple of my 3 week old chicks. For some you can never see enough pics of the new additions! And this is what you do with the tacky sheets laying around the house. They make great dust barriers! Haha
