The Legbar Thread!

You mean cheap?

yes

That's less than $4 an egg where most of us have paid $5-10/egg. Just make sure the parents (at least one) is cream.

So you have some? Now what's so special about the breed? I saw the pictures and is nothing I ever seen previously.

Don't get us started! Rare, recently imported from Great Britain, blue egg layer, autosexing chicks, and beautiful to boot! They also have great personalities. The others are right, that would be a fabulous deal on those eggs if the parents are high quality. That is the one problem in the US- there is a LOT of sub-standard stock floating around right now.

Like Rinda said, Cream Legbars are autosexing (you can tell the girls and boys apart at hatch), production blue egg layers (my girls give me 5-6 eggs a week each), crested and cream. They are great foragers, wonderful parents, and so friendly if raised by hand. My roosters are gentle with their ladies (no mounting before they're mature, no bald spots or excess feather pulling, etc.). The chicks can't wait for a ride if given the chance, and love to be petted. I think the chicks are the prettiest I've seen too!

@ Rinda, what are the chances that you'd be selling any of that pullet (covered by Hugger)'s eggs/chicks in the future?
