The Legbar Thread!

Another cross:

Cream Legbar x Buff-laced Polish. Check out that autosomal red (CL Dad has a lot of it.).

Awesome barred crest feathers.

Younger picture. Facing off with a young CL cockerel.

Same cross in a pullet. The autosomal red is sex-linked, right?

Her ladylike crest.

they are such striking birds! i've had one CL x SFH grow up to be a teenager before i gave her away, here is a photo from when she was about six weeks old:

and i have two other CL x SFH chicks right now, but they are only two weeks old -- will be a while before i can tell anything about their coloring:

one with a huge white spot on its head

and the other, looking more chipmunk-y still...

This is a great shot of a cool bird! Love the crazy hairdo and spiky comb

Could you please give me your opinion of my CCL rooster? He's a bit bigger now and still has very little color on him. I had someone tell me he's not the right color for a Legbar Rooster. That the rooster I had before him was better looking. I'm loving the color of this guy.

He's still pretty young, right? I'm not crazy about his type in the first photo but it may just be the stance, or he may just be still maturing. The body width is nice. Tail angle is a little high. I love that he has a very obvious crest yet still has an erect comb! I'm assuming his eye color hasn't yet fully developed due to his age. It is remarkable how little color he has on his shoulders. Remember that some people really get hung up on color when type is more important. I would say he looks very good and you should definitely breed him and see how the offspring turn out. Some people have posited that a lack of chestnut will lead to a loss of salmon on the female offspring, but breeders in the UK have said that is not true. Just something we have to learn for ourselves I guess!

Those pictures were taken 2 months ago. He is around 7 months old now. I need to get more recent pictures of him. He still has very little color on him. When I first saw a Legbar Rooster in was in the Practical Poultry magazine and he looked darn near close to this guy. No color at all and absolutely beautiful. I do have a little pullet chick growing up right now so we'll see.

I think your cockerel is excellent. This is one of the very few that I have seen that has a long back. He has nice coloring IMO and the long legs are an asset providing that he will grow into them, which I suspect he definitely will....

Certainly a very nice one for your breeding plans IMO.

I had a cockerel that looked just like him but I culled him because I personally prefer the birds with color. I do like his type so far
