The Legbar Thread!

This is just one breeder, but she has some lovely pictures, http://www.jillscreamlegbars.co.uk/gallery/4573536975

Wow...her chick down color is all over the map. I guess there isn't a "UK" down color after all. Some of them have more variation than some of us.

P.S. I sent all but four of the cockerels from last fall's hatch to the elderly farmer across the street today. I kept three cockerels from the same hen that produced my best cockerels last year. She produced the best boys this year too. I cull all of her sons last year because they were all gold and regreted it. This year she was paired with a different cockerel and not only produced the larges most vigorous cockerels, but they were also the only cream colored cockerels. The 4th cockerel I kept from a different pairing is gold but was the best cockerel from a cock bird that I not longer have in my flock. I decided to keep some of his blood around to have more gene pool to work with.

Sounds like you have some smart options for combinations going Mr. C! I'm thinking that I'm going to have to be culling one of my lines for weak backs, but at least I have the better body though mostly gold line to work with. I have some uncrested cream girls in there so it's only a matter of time before they're gtg. I'll get you those hen weights as soon as my new scale comes in. My old one just doesn't seem reliable.

On jills web page four rows down on the left i believe to be the best color chick down for a boy. The girl right next to him is what im thinking a cream hen chick down will look like. You can even see her neck where her hackles will be have a creamy silverish color to the down

I have found some Gold Legbars, are they still good? I would prefer Cream but that might be hard.
