Because brown genes stack "on top" of blue genes to make green and olive. The more brown genes you have the darker/more olive the egg will appear.Then how do we end up with olive eggers? My CLB rooster crossed with Marans produced all OE layer pullets. Perhaps it is the intensity of the brown that counts? Would be interesting to explore this in more detail.
