The Legbar Thread!

Good God, no! LOL
I'll give you an idea of how many breeds I already have; Cream legbars, Black copper marans, Lavender orpingtons, Welsummers, Light Sussex, Coronation Sussex, Twentse, Sulmtalers, Silkies, Silver Laced Wyandottes (bantam and large fowl) , Buff orpingtons, Ameraucanas (wheaton and blue ), Buff Sebrights, Rhode Island Reds, Barred Rock, a few hybrids, Red Golden pheasantspheasants, Lady Amhearst pheasants, a peacock and peahen, and now Bielefelders. Oh, and bantam Cochins. A lot of them are just for multi colored eggs, and some are going to be phased out, but I have my hands full with what I have. I do have my eye on one more breed, Isbars, they are true green egg layers, which would allow me to get green eggs without making Easter Eggers. Are you interested in a Silver Laced bantam trio, full grown and laying eggs every day?
I would have loved to but I have my incubator full of Legbars and Mauve Orpingtons. I know where to look for now when I need them.

P.S Some folks on this forum have nice Isbar and Isbar hybrids.

How do you like your Sulmtalers? Ive seen them in pictures and they always catch my eye.

I have the cutest Isbar x Araucana crosses. They are small birds, but good layers. One lays a moss green egg and the other more of a mint green. I've hatched out many of their eggs and have some chicks from them in the brooder right now. :)

Mr rooboo --
chicken math in action!!

Isbars are gorgeous -- especially if you can get the 'originals'' with the super-dark eyes........

From Samantha Kellerman at Highview Farms....

Now back to Legbars, I would love it if my CLs had combs like Mr. Isbar up there.....Here is (Legbar male X Isbar female) hybrid - only one cresting gene, but nice(er) combs.

So far so good, they are nice looking birds, mine are 17 weeks today so I'm expecting their first eggs soon. I was deceived a little bit when I bought them because gff had pictures of what I believe were gold duckwing sulmtalers on the auction and I loved the look of the rooster, but they were actually selling wheatons. The pullets have nice crests like the legbars.

Here's my new arrivals, 7 pullets, and 9 cockerels, I just love the auto sexing breeds.

you might like this article by Sigrid van Dort -- she is a genetics genius up there with Henk69 and Grant Brereton.... The Sulmtaler should be Red Wheaten as I understand it -- hence a different e-Locus from the Duckwing.

Finally figured out who is causing my non-crested chicks. I did some hen swapping and such which partially ruled it out but the red ranger and autosexing EE hens were only with my pure rooster and most of their chicks are non-crested. The pure rooster is out of my original pair which kinda sucks. My rose combed rooster only produced 4 non-crested chicks out of about 30. Guess it iw a good thing I hatched some unrelated birds this year to mix in
