The Legbar Thread!

Pics
I don't candle until day 18. I had four Cream Legbars eggs shipped from Greenfire farm and candled them a few days ago and only one had anything in it. I opened the empty ones up to confrim and none of them started either. I had four of the other breeds from my dozen assorted rare breed greenfire eggs hatch today, and two of the remaining four eggs are still working on it including the cream legbar egg. I hope I am as lucky as you and get a pullet. You
I had similar results from my Breda hatch. I bought a dozen eggs, they sent 16. 2 were unfertilized. 5 started but stopped. 4 were developed chicks that didn't develope fully and didn't pip. 5 hatched. But I won't be able to sex them probably for months!

I have breda and have had problems hatching them. I think the genetic issue I was speaking of hit them.
here are two pics

you can see the missing toenail on the left (right foot) and the outside toe is also missing the nail but is covered by feathers). I was hoping it wasn't going to show up so soon in any of my breeds

, but was expecting it eventually. I have to separate all my hens to see who is throwing the deformity.

at least with the Legbars they have brought in new blood, gives us more hope for genetic diversity to avoid these things...

My first legbar eggs are due to hatch tomorrow

eta- I have a couple that are 4 weeks old and I think I can tell them apart. The lack of a comb makes it difficult but one has wattles growing while the other has almost nothing still...so I am thinking pair?

Here are new pictures of my Cream Legbars. The first pair is from daisyjack, they are almost 8 weeks old. The second pair is from GreenFire Farms they are around 6 weeks old.

yay, I have two pips!

I went out to check out my legbar roos. Neither really looks like they have crests, but they used to? I know they have the gene because any cross from those roos result in crested babies
this is a breda x cream legbar....see the little crest in the middle? I think it is really cool what happened to the comb, combless x single comb = buttercup?

Mug shots (1 female, 2 males). One male's comb looks like he has an early sprig. What do you think? The Greenfire article on the "new" rooster included 3 things: straighter comb, brighter yellow legs, and less chestnut. After good health, what of these do you think is important; easier or harder to get right. Thanks for feedback! Pics at about 6 weeks.

I still need to update pics of my babies that are now 3 months as of today. My cockerel has been mounting everything in sight lately. I know all 3 lines are available for sale now. My cockerel is from line 1/A and the pullets are from line 3/C
