Oh you are so...lucky...
What do you guys think about the coloring of this rooster?

I have been drooling over those pics for months

Body looks good. Obviously there is still some autosomal red, but much less than most of the birds I've seen. It looks like there may be a bit of red in the earlobes, but the SOP says to look over it if all else is good. I wish I lived closer to CA. It makes me nervous to order eggs from across the whole country.
Keep in mind though that the second younger cock has more red and you may get some of his eggs...
*Disclaimer - it's impossible to judge a bird without seeing it in real life, holding it, and watching it's behavior it's environment.

If you order and just so happen to hatch too many...

I'm only seeing one boy in the five chicks I hatched yesterday. Am I missing any or did I really get that lucky?

Early on I was getting a lot of pullets. Twice I got 8 out of 12 in favor of the girls then 6 pullets out of 7. I went 3 hatches untill I got a cockerel from Hen "B". I started worring that they weren't breeding true, but they all grew up to be pullets. The cockerels caught up. My last three hatches was about 20 cockerels to 6 pullets.

You got really luck. :)

it is always nice when you are starting with a breed to get more girls in the beginning.

I wish I was that lucky! I set 10 cl eggs and ended up with two Roos that hatched! I can't keep the boys, and am really disappointed I didn't get at least one girl. Not sure if I will set the cl eggs again. They were harder to hatch then the sfh I had hatched previously. I do love that they are a blue layer, though.

I was surprised at the hatch rate I got since these were shipped from a few states away and took almost a week to get here. I think the incubator was key. my brinsea mini advance kept that temp steady even during repeated candling and apparently did an excellent job with the humidity as well. can't believe got so many girls! :)

I also have the mini advance. I think you got lucky!

Quote: Keep trying I've found my CLs the easiest to hatch of all the breeds I've hatched when they are my own. it seems that roos are quite common on the first hatches...kinda weird but as newbiechix can now attest you could end up with a clutch of girls next time...

I've had no luck on the shipped eggs. I saw the above mentioned auction and was tempted also but realized the seller is the same seller I tried on rarebreeds where she is pearlchicken and though some did develop early on they all ended up either quitting or the few that ended up in lockdown did not hatch or even pip. Cali is to far away for me and I'd love to try her Black Bresse that she has on auction now also. I thought the rooster color was pretty good but probably not true to life as it looks like the comb color is a bit washed out and that tends to mean the actual color is washed out and whitens the bird also but his wing shoulders are not heavily colored so he looks to be close to SOP - The other pictures are more typical. I had no luck what so ever - nothing hatched. Next year is my last year trying shipped eggs depending on outcome. The BCM's I tried last spring was a 50% hatch rate - my best so far. I'm doing Bresse (black and white) and Tolbunt Polish on pre-orders. If the results are the same then I'll only do live birds after that...enough money down the drain at that point.
Hatched out 6 Chocolate Bantam Orpingtons, turns out these first 2 batches of 3 each had a Legbar in the genetics for at least 5 it looks like...good grief. Not sure what i want to do with them now. They are cute but much noisier than when i hatch the CLs.
