I have never heard of a splash Legbar either, and would like to know where they came from and what the adults look like
P.S. Yes, I am familiar with the Brown Marans. When I first saw them I was guessing that they had a diluter of black like the chocolate gene. Several people in California were looking from Black Marans for their Chocolate Marans project last year so I assumed that one of the Marans lines was throwing the chocolate gene. In later discussion I heard several people bash the Hayden Browns both for naming them after them self (you don't name chickens after yourself. The APA has only allowed that once in the case of the Lamona, but Harry Lamona was an APA judge and spent 2 decades developing that breed so they felt it was fitting, naming something that after yourself that you don't even have stabilized in your flock or a true breeding line is not going to fly with APA, and so the Marans Breeders are reasonable up-set over what Mr. Veech is doing. The other complaint about the Haden Browns if that several people have said that they have culls that look just line them. The blue copper Marans pair in the post you refer to is a good example. They simple have the black melonizers and the copper coloring miss paired producing too much copper. If you look at the shanks you will see that the feathering is not brown. In the Hayden Browns they have brown feathers all the way to their feet. They also have a distinct down type. So I think that the claims that the Hayden Browns are culls has no merit to it and people that get sick over everyone jumping on every new color rather than wanting good quality Marans and lashing out in their frustration.
