Chapter Forty Three

The second egg hatched today, and the first chick just kept getting bigger.
The first one also started getting tiny feathers, which is exciting for all of us, even though you can't really tell what color they are.
Life so far was just brooding, feeding, brooding, feeding, hatching, brooding... etc.
The next day, another egg hatched. Another hatched the next, and the next.
When all six hatched, I was finding it hard to brood.
The first chick soon got all of it's feathers, and looked like a clumsy adult. He was cinnamon light green, just like me.
The next chick was also green, but had a lighter tint to her, but was still too young to tell.
"Mommy!" The first chick peeped one day.
"You can talk!" I exclaimed.
"Mommy!" He said again.
"Clouds! The first one is talking!
"Really?"
"Yes, but the only thing he's saying is 'Mommy'."
"Oh."
"Ok, teach your little sister that."
He tried to.
"What are we going to name him?" I asked Clouds, "He looks just like me."
"Apple the second?" He joked.
"Nah, how about..." I though for a second.
My mind wandered back to the animal shelter.
"Polly?"
"Sure, if you want," Clouds replied.
"Ok then," I said to the chick, "You're Polly."
He looked at me as if I was crazy.
