~*~The Life Story of Apple the Budgie~*~

Chapter Forty Nine

Polly, Bubbles, Spring, and I were playing hide and seek.
It was Bubble's turn to seek, and I was hiding in the nest box with Aqua. We were pretty good friends now.
I hid behind her.
"Just act normal," I instructed.
Aqua giggled, and started brooding as if no one was hiding anywhere.
In a few minutes, Bubbles flew in, and asked, "Is my mom hiding anywhere here?"
"Nope, haven't seen her," Aqua replied casually.
"Really?" Bubbles sounded suspicious.
She circled Aqua.
I circled Aqua, always keeping to the opposite side from Bubbles so that Aqua would block her from seeing me.
"Guess she's not here. I've been looking everywhere," Bubbles said to Aqua.
We both laughed after Bubbles left.
A couple minutes later, we heard Bubbles yell, "Ok, mom! I give up! Where are you??"
I crawled out from behind Aqua, and announced, "Here I am!"
"But I looked there!"
I laughed, "I know," I chirped smugly.
"Ok, you're the seeker now!"
Fine.
I turned around and counted to ten.
"Ready or not, here I come!" I yelled when I was done.
I looked on the perches, no one.
I looked behind the waterer, and found Spring.
I looked in a corner, and found Bubbles.
Where's Polly?
I looked and looked for a couple of minutes. Where was he?

Cliffhanger!

Chapter Fifty

"All right, Polly, we give up!" I called.
"Polly?" Spring called, "Polly!"
"Where are you?" Bubbles chirped.
"Over here!" Came Polly's excited voice.
He was outside the aviary.
"Polly!," I shrieked, "How did you get out there?"
"I found a crack!" Polly showed it to us.
"Clouds!" I yelled.
Clouds flew over, "What is it?"
"Remember how you said we can go outside again, but in the Spring?"
"Yes..."
I slipped through the crack Polly found.
"Wow!" Everyone was amazed.
"Hey, we can all go outside and form a flock of wild budgies!" Polly suggested.
"Now that I've thought about it, that's not a bad idea!" Clouds chirped thoughtfully.
All the noise in the aviary died down to listen to what we had to say.
"And Polly should be the leader, since he found the crack!" I announced.
"No," Polly said sternly.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Because you should."
"ME?" I was honored.
"Yes, you."
"All right then. We can go out to explore today, to find all the best places for food and water. Then, when the nesting pairs are done raising their chicks, we can all go and be a flock together!"
"Hey, wait a minute," A cinnamon sky blue objected, "What if you don't want to go?"
That comment started the chaos all over again, this time, with birds objecting.
"Fine, if you don't want to go, then don't. We're not begging anybird," I said.
"But the ones who do, follow me."
I slipped through the crack, amazed to find that most of the birds in the aviary followed.
Our flock has begun.
