Chapter Six
Discouraged, I fluttered my wings as I fell off my fourth attempt to climb the bars.
I stared at them. They seemed to be laughing, making fun of me. Well! I looked closer. There was a pattern. If I put my foot here and gripped it tight enough, I could put my other foot there and it wouldn't slip because of the horizontal bar holding it up...
At the end, I was very pleased with my plan. Here we go. Take five.
I put my foot where I planned for it to go. So far so good. I gripped it as hard as I can. Gingerly, I lifted my other foot and gripped the bar.
Next foot... All was well.
I had gone up half the distance up to the box, but it was high and the cage was big.
"Hey!" I heard a sharp chirp from the box. I was so afraid someone saw me, I fell off the bars.
Ow! I thought, as I landed. Annoyed, I ruffled my feathers.
My landing was quite loud. Mommy and Daddy woke up and looked around, to go to sleep again. The human somehow heard it too, for he came rushing up to the cage rather sleepily.
Suddenly, there was a very bright light flashing on. I narrowed my eyes just enough for me to see.
Peering in, he somehow saw me. He opened the cage door.
Mommy and Daddy flew around the cage in alarm. I opened my eyes wide as the hand stooped down and picked me up. As it did, Mommy saw me. She stared at me.
I squawked my complaints to the human. How rude of him! I could have gotten up eventually, I knew I could! Who was he to mind my business?
Ignoring me, the human went up some stairs and opened a door.
"It's too late for feeding chicks," He muttered, and put me in a box
"Let me out!!!" I shrieked.
I was ignored.
"Birdnapper!"
He apparently didn't care.
"Who do you think you are, horrible human?!?"
I was ignored even more.
I couldn't see out of the box, and the human could have gone to another room for all I knew, so I just squawked quietly to myself a bit, and went to sleep.
Sleep wasn't much better. Mommy and Daddy were in my dreams.
"You were a bad chick today. A very bad chick," Daddy said.
"Yes. You were too bad," Mommy agreed, "The good thing is that it will never happen again."
"Yes! It won't ever happen again!" I screamed desperately.
Daddy nodded, "It won't."
"Because you won't be living here anymore," Mommy finished.
"No!!!" I woke with a start.
Mommy had seen me. What would happen now?
