CHAPTER 4 - INESCAPABLE
Bloody handprints soiled the curtains, ripped to little more than ribbons. Glass littered the floor, the chill of the night bleeding into her brother's room. She didn't want to look at her brother, terrified.
She didn't want to look. If something had broken in, and caused this graphicity on the curtains and floor, what could it have done to her brother...?
Yet her curiosity overtook her, and she dared to look.
She remembered the number, and the creature's forewarning. I suppose... This creature... Is truly inescapable...
Her body convulsed at the broken carcass of her dead brother.
Glass had sliced his skin near to nothing, his arms marionetted into a forced, strange position. His shirt was shredded, his soft 4-year-old skin soiled with crimson. His eyes, a beautiful blue with lighter or darker blue flecks - Shaunee had always thought it looked like chipped ice - were drowning in fear; now transfixed open. Gently passing a hand over his face and closing his eyes, she collapsed to her knees. She ignored the cuts she gave herself, her hands shoved through her stringy brunette hair. She tried to force back her tears, but it was a futile effort.
So young... Too early to die... So young...
