Jenski-yes the Ivermectin works super but warning if you have a weak stomach.Birds that appear perfectly healthy will be pooing out worms within minutes. It does do scaly legs with almost instant results and gets those pesty mites at the same time. I'm in total agreement a wormy bird is worse than the meds but I tell everyone to start with the mild stuff if I haven't seen the bird to know how run down it is...ivermectin will kill an infested bird quickly..however here if they were that bad they would still get it and hope for the best with the it's going to die either way motto. Worming it it may live.
I don't over worm here...same as with those flea drops for animals and antibiotics for people if you use it too much it won't work at all.The trick is to get completely worm free then the more natural ways help most.

Awesome info, Jenski! Not way more, just right! I will pm in a minute to get a copy of that spreadsheet since you so graciously offered!

I do a poop patrol every couple days anyway to prevent problems. I also try to watch as each takes her first morning 'dump' to see who's doing what. Gosh, some of those are quite large - how do they hold all that? So I'll double check each dropping before scooping it up.

Do any of you use your chicken litter/droppings to fertilize veggie crops? I'm wondering how long to compost it to ensure all worms/eggs are killed.

Hello! If you eat eggs (unknowingly of course!) from a hen that has worms - what happens?? Do you get sick? Die?? I am new here and my hens will be laying in the fall

All animals and even we humans have some worms they say..now I hope we don't go out and eat off the ground after say the age of 5

Caged animals that never touch the ground or smell fresh air are least likely to have worms..and a very unhappy life is the trade off. So no eating an egg from a chicken with worms but without a worm problem won't hurt you..A worm infested chicken won't lay an egg since they have to be in relatively good health to lay...and a very good diet if you want more than an occasional egg.

As my momma used to say...."I'll be swaneeeeeee!!!".

Didn't plan this out very well so now I need a bit more guidance, friends.

I removed the other water and gave the girls the Wazine water this morning. Keeping them in the main pen so there won't be any puddles to drink from. But it's raining pretty hard here now and I'm afraid it might blow under the coop where the waterer is and dilute the solution. Should I do more tomorrow? I can't find any guidelines.......does anyone know of a site that gives detailed instructions?

an annoying wet lousy day after approximately eleventy billion previous wet lousy days... sigh... it is raining. Again. I have not put my garden in because it is too wet. I have 50 strawberry plants in the fridge that need to get in the ground. Too wet. I need to paint the fence and house trim. Too wet. Does Mother Nature not know I have chores to do?!

On the plus side, I see before me a full day of being piled up on the couch reading.

So what did we decide about our next meetup? That should be this weekend, right? Where do you want to go? What do you want to do? If I remember correctly, we were having a hard time finding a park to take us. Do we just want to go eat again and try for a park meetup later in the year? Talk to me people!

I'll join the rainy day woes! Man it was heavy all night and still comming down. I dread going out to see the chickies in the brooder in the loft. They have a light but being feathered out the don't stay under it but stand around all droopy instead! The poor guniea pigs can't understand why they are being punished, they haven't been able to graze the yard for days! And now its cold to boot! Summer hurry up and get here!
