Jenski tends to have internet issues in bad weather. Her area had some damage but not much. Some City buildings a Church close to her and one of the Marina's mostly-the Marina just keeps getting hit. Most of our damage was in the Southern part of the County. If she had damage you would be seeing Jen in her big black boots her house damaged past repair and she's out there looking for the scared birdies that Remy has hidden to keep safe

.The reporters would all be wondering what that crazy person was doing

She has a brand new Zillion Dollar High School sitting in her back yard..it is really so if that took a hit the news stations would be all over it.

Good Morning online friends! Hope you all made it through the storms and flooding. We are doing good.

Does anyone know where I can find a few silkie pullets near me??? Crossville, TN

I need them pretty young - I want them pet friendly for the kids.

Thanks!

Morning all! Hope everyone came through yesterday afternoon OK. This morning when I was out in my pens it reminded me of the morning after a wild party . . . lots of clean-up and no one around to help, LOL! Unfortunately I don't have any fun party memories to go with the clean-up, though. Ah well.

CityGirl, sounds like you'll be learning how to shingle a roof. I have every confidence you can accomplish this, 'cause you da woman!!

Holly, hope you didn't have too much damage up your way. Sounds like we'll both be mucking out today. Good times.

stanglover, thanks for posting the pic! Sweet chick.

believer, I have been re-reading my Gail Damerow chicken book, and one thing under post-mortem findings (p.180) stuck with me . . . nutritionally-related issues and water deficiency. I try to be very careful not to medicate my birds' only source of water unless I absolutely have to, since I find they don't always drink enough if they don't like the taste of the water. If I do a supplement or something, I always provide another water source that is neutral. You treat your girls' water, right? Just for grins, why don't you try a week with just clean, plain water and see what happens.
Now it is also possible you just may have a couple of "unthrifty" hens. I have two here who just seem to need extra everything - - time, attention, babying, encouragement to stay healthy. Since I have so many others who are healthy, and since I stay on top of basic hygiene and parasite management, I want to attribute their unthriftiness to genetics.

OK, off to muck out since I can't find the servants anywhere. Y'all have a good day!

I completely agree with the genetics playing a huge part in unthriftiness. Unfortunately finding the "more" can be very tricky because what it is for one isn't the same for the other..just like kids

I'm seeing it in certain breeds mostly my really inbred birds-why I'm working with 2 lines where I can to help improve on that problem.
Jenski if you find that help send them my way this weekend..OMG what a mess I have in that big shed...above ankle deep the entire floor and it all has to come out.

so wet heavy and boy does it STINK
All of our damage came on Tuesday morning when the wind was so bad..we need a new roof but it will get patched again since he hates to roof and I don't want to spend that money right now...work can be hard to find-unless I ship him to AL they will need some building done

Thanks Jenski - I'll do that with their water. Thinking along those lines I had paid attention to the amounts they consume of both of medicated and plain water (about every 3rd change of water) and can't tell much difference. But perhaps I should put a 2nd waterer out there and let them choose every day!

Holly, what about a siphon? You can buy ones that use a squeeze bulb to get it started, or do like I used to and suck on the end of a hose (fish tank hosing). Sure is easier than lifting that water!

CityGirl, have you heard from your family in AL? Seems every place that got hit has some of my kin folk and I've only been able to talk with a couple. Finally got thru to my sister in Cullman - and her phone's nearly dead with no power to recharge it. She had to go out and buy water since she wouldn't store any, even though Cullman gets hit hard every couple years. Of course most of the gas stations can't pump without electricity, atm's are out and the electric stove isn't working. She doesn't have enough batteries to do both flashlights and radio so has to switch them back and forth. They've been told it may be 3 - 5 days before power's restored there.

I wish some of my cousins had email....they're even more low-tech than me.

Believer- Mom and Dad are working on it. I know Mom has talked to most of her kin folks. I'm still unsure about the Tuscaloosa family. I got in really, really late last night after a student show and so haven't had a chance to check in with the parents. The pictures coming out of Tuscaloosa are horrifying though. I lived there for two years in grad school. It is so sad to see familiar areas just gone.

The sun is shining here though. I have been picking up shingles and tree limbs and will go back out in a bit to get back at it. Glad everyone here survived okay.

Jenski, if you do find your servants, will you send Sven or Antonio over here to help out. I could really use a good houseboy.

Mommywisey- I have some 8 month old buff pullets and cockerels. I believe Simplysplendidsilkies has some blue and black for sale right now as well. Silkietime has splash and white. I imagine she has some for sale as well. Pick you color!

Whew, what crazy 36 hours. I live in the middle of Murfreesboro and our neighborhood was hit hard. Lucky for the chickens the tree just missed their coop by about 5 feet. No damage to the house, just the fence around the back yard. We were lucky. Some of our neighbors have huge trees down on their property. This afternoon I'll have plenty of chainsaw work to do between my house and my neighbors.

Glad everyone else seems to be ok.

Econman - glad you and your chicks are ok! Bet they have some stories to tell, eh? I can't find much on the damage in Rutherford Cty on the internet (no tv here) - all the articles have the same couple paragraphs, rearranged.....so I'm glad it's not worst than it is.

GityCirl, glad your familys mostly accounted for!

I started to clean up debris, limbs and stuff, then realized that I could just wait and let hubby! Yesterday I went out and kept pulling stuff off the fences, smooshed some spots to let water out under the fences, rescued lumber/cedar posts/garden supplies which were floating away.......so I'm letting him handle the rest of it! He was away on business and missed all the fun. Sorry, can't loan him out to you Jenski/CityGirl cuz a friends folks lost 6 huge trees which we're going to help cut/clean tomorrow or Sat. So sad.....the trees were gorgeous! At least they all missed the house!!!

I'm letting the girls out earlier today ~ I think I fiugred out how to prevent them from getting into some big box gardens so now they can range longer. They'll like that after staying in most of yesterday. C'ya later, alligator!

Hi,I'm cheching in, been sick and building coops and runs. I'm so sad for AL.
fl.gif
I have chicks to cockerels and pairs. White, splash blue and one black cockerel. Partridge chicks. I think I missed a few shows but for the first time I don't have chicks in the house.
wee.gif
I need a good house cleaning and some paint, then back to the coops and runs.
I am thankful most everyone is safe.
