Tractor supply gets their chicks from hatcheries. Most of the ones in TN use Privett. At least over here they do. I have never lost any that I got at 3 different TSCs, unless it was to a predator.
I think when it comes to providers, you have to figure out what you want, and do your research. Breeders directories, breed clubs, ect.

Oh maybe I was wrong- the one I have heard bad things about is Hollow, not Haven.

Yeah, I figured that was who you meant. My mom bought her first chicks from Poultry Hollow. They're hatchery quality and she has one with pretty severe wry tail but no losses or growth issues. The Brahmas are actually quite pretty but I wouldn't go because I didn't appreciate that they passed off an obvious mutt rooster as a light Brahma pullet and then told them more lies when they complained.

That was my typo it was hollow not haven, sorry... Again I can't say anything really good about them or really bad about them. My own experience is I believe the pullets I purchased were younger than what I paid for and not as healthy as they should have been. But I love my Rooster he is so handsome and very sweet. I have a couple RIR pullets purchased from TSC this spring that are healthy little girls and Three RIR X Australorp chicks that hatched out a little incubator, last week (got the eggs from my grandmother),an experiment and to replace the one I purchased from PH and lost. I didn't really think any would actually hatch much less 3 out of 5. Now just wanting hens or POL.

Thanks. That's what I'm looking for - research sources.

Our co op will order chicks you just have to pay shipping.. We also have a local feed store that we can order from and it's 17.00 for shipping and a min of 15. Me and the misses wanna order a mixed batch of bantams and well just see what we get..

Good Day Middle Tn from West Tn ! A quick set of questions on selling eggs to a retail/coffee shop location, hopefully someone can answer. I don't sell many here but they have asked, majority are sold to individuals.

1. Eggs need to be sanitized ?
2. Cartons need to be labeled?
3. Can repurposed cartons be used as long as labeled and sanitized?
4. Or if the retail locations ask for customer to bring there own carton does that change having to use a new carton?
5. Keep refigerated?

Thanks

I would think you would need a new carton with labels and refrigeration. they should not come get you if you don't BUT I would think the retail store would have some regulations they have to follow. they laws were put there to protect consumers and you as a small timer don't have to fall under those rules. might be a gray area I don't know. I would do what they required when you had to have a permit.
