The Middle Tennessee Thread

I have SS but am over in Memphis. Bev, "chickensmart" in Portland Tn., mentioned to me this summer she knew some one in mid Tennessee who had some. You may want to PM her. Walt Reichert in KY has some beauties. There is a pretty active Speckled Sussex forum here that you might post on. I'd send you eggs but I ate my rooster this summer and haven't replaced him yet. Geez that sounded horrible!!

That sounded funny. Why did you eat him? hungry????? I don't usually do that unless I have a backup or he attacked me. I had a leghorn roo that got me good and he was not long for this earth after that. He didn't get a ride in luxury either. I don't want him to attack the roo guy so I did tape his legs up and put him in a box so the other would not hurt him.

There is someone in Portland that has some SS BUT the pic is blurry and the colors on the roo don't look right. I don't need GREAT birds. I am trying to improve vigor in my MFL.... they are VERY fragile chicks and I want some new blood for them. CarolJ is setting me up with a pullet and if I can find 1 or 2 more down the road I will be good to go.... or a roo.... I could put him with my MFL pullet. Then I could have 2 lines to cross between. I have 3 MFL roos and only 1 pullet. I have more eggs coming but would LOVE to have some new blood in them.

Thanks for the lead I will check with her after the first of the year.

Are Speckled Sussex typically aggressive roos? One of the two meanest roosters I ever had was a huge Speckled Sussex (the other was an evil white Sultan!). They are gorgeous birds, but the mean rooster has me forever afraid of them!

be is a close friend of mine, and the guy who has the SS I went and saw them in person. He said he had black giants and they are hatchery australorps. The birds looked sick, drainage in nostrils and sneezing and coughing. Nope

I think you can get a mean roo in any breed. I have not had one breed MEANER than any other. I have had LOTS of breeds too. I have had one mean Marans but only one. Same with Olive Eggers, White Leghorns, Barred Rocks. Typically I don't keep mean roos. I don't want to deal with them and I don't want to breed that forward.

My MFL are flighty but not mean that I have seen. I put them with some pullets and they calmed down some. Maybe the SS blood will help calm them down some too.
