The Middle Tennessee Thread

We're averaging 6 eggs a day from 7 birds. They slowed when it was 0* outside but have picked back up.

I do have a question tho, one of my Marans has yellow legs, and the other pale green. They both have beautiful dark eggs- why the leg difference?

I'm getting 3-4 a day from 6…..which I'm thinking is pretty good. Four of them are getting over the molt and apparently someone is helping the other 2 newbies out with the eggs. For awhile I wasn't getting any because of the molting and 2 of them are the newer pullets….born on May 1st and took FOREVER to start laying…..just hang in there is all I can say.

We have 4 of 8 laying right now- got 3 this morning. I accidentally sent 3 ladies into a moult by shutting up the coop when it got real cold. Apparently there was enough light from the security light to keep them from full blown moulting. Our last is simply being stubborn. We have had her since July, her combs and waddles have been bright red for weeks now, but she just won't get around to laying us an egg. I maylet her overhear me talk about making soup today and see if she responds.
I have a Standard Barred Rock hen that is 10 months old..nice red comb, big girl, healthy...hasn't laid a single egg...her sister has been laying 3 months.

Does anyone have a couple of silkie pullets they would like to sell? Color doesn't matter. PM me if you have some or know of someone in the area that's willing to part with a couple.

A few months back, Hobby Farms magazine held a contest for people to enter their farm story. On Sep. 19th I entered mine!

Just a few hours ago I was contacted by the Assistant Editor of Hobby Farms and Hobby Farm Home. I was told that my story had been chosen for the publication in the March/April issue of Hobby Farms!

I am extremely excited and grateful for this opportunity!

Thanks so much to Hobby Farms!

My Farm Story can be read in the March/April issue of Hobby Farms! So be on the lookout for that in stores soon!
