The Middle Tennessee Thread

I got 2 lavender am pullets today! They are from my birds I sold in the summer. That will help tons. I do have 2 black pullets and 1 black cockerel and Lavender Cockerels from Paul Smith. I still have my original Lavender Roo from Connie. I will use him with his white daughter and still try to make some white Ams too. Like I need another pen....

Been cleaning pens for a week. Got some birds sorted out like the silkies. Got everyone cleaned in the shop but by the time I am done some are needing it again.

We cleaned all the coops out back. Now we are going to work on cleaning the runs out back. One a day... that is a big job. Glad that one only has to be done every once in a blue moon.

I really need to sell some birds! It is killing me that I have new pullets laying and I can't put them in pens to start hatching!

@Raven1 your partridge pullet.... pretty sure it is a roo. @Countrypunk92 I think you missed on sexing that "FOR SURE PULLET" LOL.

We also took the first step in moving my hatching room. Gave away the furniture we had in there. Next step is to paint some. Maybe we will get going on that next week. I am going to make new stacked brooders. They are going to have wire floors and I am going to use some oil pans from Walmart to make cleaning them much easier. I think I need 2 of those one for banties and one for LF. Going to finally finish that LOVELY Hatcher @TinTennessee made I HAVE to because I have 2 big hatches coming up in a couple of weeks and my reg hatcher is not going to cut it for the bigger hatches.

I'm free next weekend if you need help.
Do you have pics of your newer breeds on your page? My broody has been sitting every day for the past week. Attacking me like a rabid wolverine when I try to collect eggs. I think 6-8 is a good number of eggs to let her sit, what do you think Donna?

Depends on what you want. If fertility is questionable you might want more of that breed. I don't think I have updated my page. Soon.... Leah has offered to come and help me take some pictures of my birds....I think I just need a photo booth LOL

I am going to a wedding Saturday. I think it is like 4pm in Franklin. Maybe another time. I will get with you on some sizes I am thinking. Here is kind of what I am thinking on the brooder it is the BOTTOM pic in Nellabean's post. For a brooder I don't want the shelves to be more than 8-10 inches tall (the chick part) Then the oil pan on the slats under the wire. I think it is going to cut down on a lot if little issues in brooders. Cocci for one, wet litter from water getting them too cold. Easier to clean too. Chickens have a little money so I can get some good wood if needed.....

We can build several of those in a good day. Or one in just a few hours. I've got an old tablesaw and impact drill. As long as the saw doesn't die, I used it today to build some shutters on my coop & it smelled slightly like burnt rubber. Call or text & we'll figure it out. The 8th I know I'm busy, sale day at tge local four wheel parts store, I cook all the burgers & dogs for them. :)

OK we will work it out. Let me get my mind on it again and get one of those oil pans. I don't know if they have them in AC or not. I saw them in White House when I was Christmas shopping Thanksgiving. Doug got a small table saw too but not guides really. I still have most of that stuff I got from you. That might work for the walls but not the frame on the shelves. 2 I just need 2..... I think..... LOL.

K just two, but you could build them bigger & use em as single breeding pens.

No, no no.... they will only be 8-10 tall just for chicks! I have built some new pens for that in the shop. I will show you. They are bigger and up off the ground and EASY to clean! LOVE that part. We have 4 built, 3 in use. The last one just needs plastic and netting on the door. That will get done next week. I need that pen LOL. We are going to make 4 more on top of those. Going to be nice to not have small cages all over the floor for quarantine birds. I really am going to thin down. the GOAL is to just have birds out side. Maybe only extra roos in the shop. We want to go on trips with the kids and can't with this many birds and pens to take care of. ....

I had to repeat to myself "I do not need more animals!" About 50x's over, these Aracaunas were some of the healthiest, prettiest I've seen in a feed store. I gotta move out of the city.
