The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello all!!!! I live in Clarksville and am looking to get some chickens for the backyard!!! I have a 3 year old so I want ones that will be friendly with her. I really want to get them when they are young so that they will somewhat grow up together and be use to each other and of course not afraid of each other! I am a little confused on where to get started so any pointers are greatly appreciated! Aside from the coop and run is their anything I need to do to my yard?

Rural King is a farm store in Clarksville. If you read backwards a few pages MayDayMel mentions they had lots of chicks. You can also find them at Tractor Supply. There is also a local person ( Ashland City) on here who hatches a lot. DMRippy.
I hope ya'll have fun getting everything set up. My kids enjoy chickens.

I could not believe I lined up 3 people to meet me at the same place and same to sell those chickens! But now I am about out of bigger birds for a little while anyway. FINALLY I can move some birds to breeding pens. Funny how thinning down means I need more pens.... now I have a stray rooster....

COMING SOON Lavender Olive Eggers! WHOOT! I can move some pullets around to a pen without a rooster to clean them out for breeding in a bit. SPRING IS COMING!

Got more than a 1/3 of the new room primed. Tomorrow hubby thinks we can finish priming and paint everything too.... not sure about that but might get most of it done. If you thought the MAIN shop was a mess before it is an OBSTACLE course now LOL.

Now I have a TECHNICAL question.... those of you that have used wire floors with chicks what size wire did you use? I got the 1/4 inch hardware cloth.... now I am thinking the poo might not fall through easy..... what do you think? I can get some 1/2 hardware cloth if you think that would work. I just felt like the 1/2 inch might be too big for new chicks and bantams.....

Off to shop for some heating elements for the brooders.

Yes said you can get up to 10. Its a rebate thing. Came in the mail today. I feel like its a sign or something!
I'm up in Clarksville, but didn't get a RK advertisement. Most of their rebate things you do online and you get your $ worth to spend back in RK. I have an incubator but no fertile eggs. We raised ours last year :)

One of my customers today is a Rural King and he is getting me 10 WL pullet chicks $1.99 each WHOOT..... did I win the lottery or not.... he is going to meet me too on his way back to springfield tonight. What a great guy!
