Wow, you guys are chatty this morning!

Has anybody heard from Jenski? Is she still having computer issues? I miss her chatty self in the mornings.

Econman- that is so cool! Yay that your boy is getting excited about it too. I can't wait to see what hatches out for you.

Believer- I'm with Holly on this one. You need one (or two!) of each.

You might as well tell Mike to make the coop twice as large. You know you will eventually need it. HeHe!

Matlock- how's your hatch going? Anything new developing? How is that bator working? Still holding temps and humidity?

Y'all welcome Radfarm to our kingdom. I met him the other day to sell him some of my older babies and he is delightful! Wes, you were wanting more guys to be involved with chickens. Well, I found one for you.

Radfarm is just starting out, but he is very excited about chickens. Y'all help me drag him into the addiction.

So I sold Radfarm a blue EE rooster, a couple of barred rocks and a black EE. Those babies were hatched in March. He is wanting a couple more pullets to round out his flock. Who has something interesting and pretty to sell Radfarm? He'll have two light brown egg layers and a green egg layer. Who has some blue egg layers or a dark brown egg layer? Holly, do you have any wheaten or blue wheaten AMs up there? Who has some marans? Y'all help this nice man out.

I broke down and ordered wheaten marans and welsummer eggs from a couple of folks. Eggs should arrive middle of next week. Fingers crossed that I get good hatches. I'm thinking I'm going to sell off my BBS ameraucana flock (just keeping my favorite hens). That frees up that pen for marans and wellies. Anybody want an ameraucana flock?
smile.png
I either need to free up that pen or build another. Hmmm...

Gotta run. The weather is decent for the moment. Outside chores must get done!

My quarantine rules vary..from some people I don't quarantine at all I know her birds and know her others I know well I cage for a day or longer. If I don't know them then I quarantine much longer away from all of my birds
CityGirl-I'm selling a pair or trio of wheaten Ameraucana's out of my breeding pen..I also have some tiny chicks. Only tweens I have here now are lavender Orpington and BLRW I think there is a Olive egger pullet hiding out in that bunch as well. I don't have BBS Ameraucana any longer other than my bantam and they are for sale..only bbs here are all my blrw

I have some nice pullets that are not breeding quality that will be real nice layers and interesting to look at.
Ahh a house full of sick people I must get back to...Kevin turns 20 tomorrow and is one of them sick in bed..poor kid

Howdy Radfarm! Hope you enjoy it here as much as I have (relative newcomer to both byc and chickens myself). These people are major enablers....they jest keep a talking bout their baters and hatches, and displaying pictures of all these beautiful fuzzy butts........and then they make them available!

So you be careful ~ it's highly addictive!

I was wondering about Jenski too.....hoping she's alright!

Raven, how old are yer chicks?

citygirl, I AM having Mike double the size of the coop! It'll go from 4x4 to 4x8! But there's only so much room in the pen. I added nearly 100' to the pen earlier by fencing it off with rabbit wire, and I let them out most every evening for a few hours, but still there's only room for so many (dang it all!).

Holly, you sure don't look old enough to have a 20 yr old! Hope he gets better quick (garlic soup!!!) and enjoys his special day. Are you doing anything special for him?

Thanks Anne for the nice comments. I am enjoying the mini flock, they are all over me. I've. Been catching cicadas for them. The BRs are very aggresive feeders. Blue boy is fitting into his roll nicely.

As Anne said I am looking for a couple pullets or laying hens. I would likea blue egger (americauna)and maybe a Maran.
An olive layer might also do.

If anyone is interested I also breed rabbits(meat). I have a litter of New Zealand that are almost a week old.

I will try to involve myself somewhat here. Please have patience with me.

Radfarm - you just need to be aware of one thing here ..... no one is going to get impatient with you, and these folks are great at helping us newbies out! But (and this is a big but!) there are alot of women on here who are good at carrying on multiple conversation threads at once, so it may 'seem' like we/they are ignoring you, when they are answering someone else. Jest keep at it!

I'm adding to my original flock and looking for similar girls....you have good taste in chickens (no pun intended)!

Hi all! We got our chicks today. Three look great but one is struggling. I'm so scared for it!! Went to tsc and they don't carry any electrolytes. Is there anything I can do??

Tracyree - I'm not the expert here, but until someone with more experience chimes in, here's what you can do.....

Make your own electrolytes! Honey (raw) is good as well, especially dissolved in some water. Warmth important.

Here's 2 recipes from another poultry site on electrolytes...credit goes to Susan Burek of Moonlight Mile Herbs

2 tbl honey or molasses
¼ tsp salt
¼ tsp baking soda
1 quart water

Molasses and honey contain certain nutrients, but neither really has any nutritional advantage over another. So choose either to your preference.

3 Tablespoons of Sugar
3/4 teaspoon of Salt
1 Teaspoon of Baking Soda
1 Cup of Orange Juice
1 Quart of Water

Pour together and shake well, being certain that all dry ingredients are fully

Hope this helps. Let us know how the baby does!
dissolved and mixed. (Keep refrigerated and and warm to body temperature before use and use within 48 hours).
