The Middle Tennessee Thread

She is an Easter Egger not a pure Ameraucana. You don't get Pure Ameraucanas from hatcheries.

I am thinking hen. And it is now possible to get a real one from My Pet Chicken but you pay about $15 to $25 (depending on the rarity of the breed) a chick for show quality birds. They are listed separately from the rest of the chickens as Show Birds.

I don't know what The Poultry House raises myself but this is what nashvillechick said about them in January 14:

I'm about to begin raising another flock of hens and have searched high and low for someone who can vent sex chicks right after hatching. The Poultry House is the best that I can find in the Nashville area---actually the ONLY ones who sex them with good accuracy. A boy may slip through on occasion, but not too often. I also just emailed a poultry scientist at MTSU and he said that the best hatchery he could recommend in the area is Poultry House. Guess they'll have all the business they need with Davidson County's new backyard hen law.

CESOrtega supplied this:Not sure if you still need the contact number but here it is for future reference: 615-574-1250 or email at [email protected] I just got this info from a flier at Bonnie's.

Those are Expensive EE too. Sorry.... they don't usually have the required looks to be an Ameraucana. I have not seen an Ameraucana from them yet. Most don't have beards or muffs.... just off and that makes them EE not Ameraucanas. I am sure he sells sexed EE. you can sex them at hatch just by the colors. She is a PULLET no doubt.

Looks like I'm going to the Dickson show even though I hadn't really planned to. My brother who is thinking about getting chickens called and asked if I was going. So now I am. Any details other than the judging starts at 9?

Speaking of that were are we meeting and what time? I have never been there.... is there a link with directions?

It makes me sick cause I won't be able to go. My son is on the 4H shooting sports team and they have the state tournament at the high school in Dickson the same day. I'll have to be there all day. Because Dickson hosts the state tourney this year all of us parents are working concessions and maintaining the event for the other counties that had to travel here.

In unrelated news... today I got the first turkey poult from the eggs I set to check fertility. I'm pretty sure it's a girl judging by the head shape. Today is day 26 for them, so hopefully she gets at least one buddy out of the deal. I have five eggs left that I candled at lock down, and I felt good about four of them, so hopefully at least one or two more hatch while I'm at work tomorrow. The first one is a cutiepie! and she gray like her daddy!!! :)

Oh I'm so glad I found this thread. I live in linden tn. Anyone close by? I'm a new chicken momma. My babies are only 3 wks and still in the house. I'll be working on the coop this weekend hopefully. I look forward to learning more and chatting with like minded people in my area.

Anyone close to linden that has guineas they need to get rid of? I need them to eat ticks. My son is having a bad reaction to the tick bites. Poor baby swells up and he loves being outside. Thanks

No fever or rash? If you ever get those reactions take him to the doctor quick. If you contract Lyme's Disease or Rocky Mtn. Spotted Tick Fever you have a two week window to get antibiotics or the organisms will cross the blood/brain barrier and collonize in your nervous system and if not immediately will eventually kill you. I lost a good friend two years ago who had contracted both at the same time 5 years earlier while kyaking on the Harpeth River. He had always had allergies and his allergist misdiagnosed the symptoms believing that RMSTF was not in this area because he had an outdated CDC report.
