Oh my gosh! You all are just too much fun, what a way to start the day! Used to be women had soap opera addictions, now people 'talk' about their chicken addictions.

Tracyree, love the monitor idea! Just had to laugh bout it - I've known people who watch their mares foal, or wait on the puppies to come using one but never thought about it for chickies!

Bet you have sweet dreams. Why is it kids love the 'poo' words? Nothing like the belly laugh of a little one, boy do I miss that.

Econman, I forgot to ask how the gig went last week in the Boro? Did you have a good crowd?

CityGirl, jus gotta wonder when has Lily met buffalo before? She's gets around, doesn't she?

Hello Jenski stranger! Hope yer feeling better....don't look now but there's sunshine outside (and it went and got hot!).

I kept waking up last night thinking about how I could divide the coop/pen to keep the newbies safe for the first couple days. Guess you can tell where my minds at!

Good morning everyone! Wow, I have a lot to catch up on, and lots of comments to make on all your postings.

I will try to do some of that later on . . .

In the meantime, I want to wish you all a happy and peaceful Memorial Day as we remember our veterans, particularly those who died serving us.

And here is a quick photo of a vet who is very near and dear to me, my Grandpa "Ski." This was in Wiesenbach, Austria, 1945. You may imagine why he was there.

What a different time it was, eh. While Grandpa Ski was shot several times in the war(s), he survived until the 1980s and I was fortunate to grow up knowing him. He and my grandmother were so brave in ways we can hardly imagine now!

Here's another little thing from the old Army trunk - - a hand-painted card from the 1940s that captures the essence of how people felt about WWII - -

Thank you to all our veterans!

Hi all, awfully quiet around here today.
We sure are enjoying our chicks. I can't believe my husband hasn't complained about them being in the house!!

Yowza!! It's hot outside and it's only June 1st!

Most of the big girls are laying now!!! Out of the six the only one who hasn't layed yet is Kenobi, one of the bantam cochins, but I'm thinking any day now.

The babies aren't so little anymore - more like teenagers whose favorite game is "grab the cicada and RUN" Pretty fun to watch.

Matlock and Econman - how are those eggs??

Tracyree - aren't little chicks fun?? But I will admit that I was very happy when mine were finally big enough to go outside!

Hbuehler - How's your daughter? Hope she's feeling better!

Believer - I was toying with the idea of Buckeyes but may wait till next year. Still feel like too much of a newbie!

Okay guys - one of the big girls looks like she scratched her comb. It's scabbed up and I've left it alone but what should I be on the lookout for? With the kids and other animals I'd look for redness around the cut but since it's on a red comb.....

Well we are on day 10 of the flu..yes the one year the kids didn't get the flu mist and sure enough brought it home to all of us...Hubby has been home from work for nearly a week..tries for a few hours and has to come home.I got lucky and only got a mild case so I'm pretty much over the crud. My trip to IN this weekend has had to be postponed.
Hot is not a word to describe this wonderful weather we are having

set up shanty town this morning..all of our canopies that come home from the ocean in bits and pieces are now being used for shade cover trying to keep as many in the shade as we can. I turned most of our breeders out so they can find shade so that means only one last bunch of eggs for the bator until later this Summer.Have to keep my bantams locked up though..those boys would take on a Mountain Lion-or the big roos and they wouldn't have a chance. So,they have a big ol fan on them making it almost nice in there...almost

....... I wanted to get some buckeyes....they are suppose to be just as good at mousing as cats and excellent at catching snakes and very cold hardy too......

Newbie here, just added a 13month Copper Maran hen( for dark brown eggs).and 1.4 7 week old Buff Sussex. So far the BCMhen has established her role as queen. My Barredrocks and EEs are trying to hang in there. They fly up and land on my shoulders as if gives them seniority over the flock.
man I love these birds..
