Sing-a-long wid me.....

I'm gonna get more chickens! I'm gonna get more chickens....
You all are such a baaaaad influence! Ever since I got on here I been wanting some more (tisk, tisk!

). So I rationalized that with 2 old girls barely laying 3 eggs between them per week, it's time to think about some new blood!

Hubby doesn't understand the concept. I'm going to have to try to figure out some analogy with softball or fishing to properly enlighten him.

Anyway, I'm getting 3 girls from Holly. Which will almost double my lil' flock and eventually double the egg laying.

Wheeee! I hope they like it here, I hope they like it here!

Yay Believer!!!
Yes, I agree...bad influence! I was just telling my husband this morning "you know, we still have room for some more chickens...at least 3 more."

What kind are you getting?? My beautiful buffs and cochins came from Holly and I just love them to pieces!

Happyfamily - I'm glad to hear your mother in law is home and recovering!

Everyone have a wonderful and safe Memorial weekend!

Hey Troyer, did I ever tell ya' that I love your signature line? Going half mad........That is sooo me! Only, I think I may have crossed the line and be more than half-way now. Oh well.

Okay, best I can remember (cuz we looked at soooo many) is one EE (who should be laying in the next 6-8 weeks), one Black Sex Link, (laying now); and a clean faced wheaten Ameraucana (will start laying in a few months). That'll scatter the eggs thru the seasons, I hope. Also, the molt. So, are you looking for more? How fun! Any idea what kinds?

HappyFamily I sure hope m-i-l is feeling better and this surgery helps! Mom's are sooooo special !!

Good thing you came when you did...just sold ALL of the remaining Wyandotte chicks in that back pen and a pair of the Lav Orps not many out there now.
Spent rest of the afternoon cleaning the kids and cats bathroom..not sure if I posted it but my oldest shut his cat's tail in the door the other day...there was blood from one end of the bathroom to the other and even the ceiling window and curtain...had to partially amputate his tail so then it dripped..and dripped..and....Add to it Meg is my cleaner in there and she's sicker than a dog...nasty won't cover it..since our bathroom is out getting a new floor

I have to share theirs...wasn't happening Ok enough rant on my less than energetic bunch

Back to chickens.. I still have a beautiful lavender Orpington roo if anyone needs a pretty boy to protect the ladies and a black laced red Wayndotte roo. I had one no show so a few more hens and pullets than I thought we had.I may just have to turn another incubator on before long.

Matlock no silly questions..middle day you can count either way and be fine..If you lockdown on day 19 they will still hatch fine.I have even forgot some and they hatch on the turners and wait for rescue. When I end up with a few smaller hatches within 2-3 days I will lock them down together one goes a little late one goes a little early.

Glad to hear you're getting more babies believer. I'm really enjoying the 13 I have left from my 20. If all 5 of these EE's hatch that'll put me back up to 18. But the first lady already has me looking for cochin eggs to set right behind these if I succeed.

I finally have a rooster crowing, the one from my profile pic, and he comes running in the morning when we leave to crow us off and when we get home to welcome us. I love his squeaky little crow. It just melts the wife too. Glad I'm getting her on my side, that will only increase my chicken budget!

Aha! Matlock the Manipulator!!! Using a roo to get to his wife! How cool is that? So how long till the big day? Have you got your bag all packed for the hospital? I mean for the brooder?

There's something about a critter who acts happy to see us that makes us feel good on the inside. I know one lady who's tag line is "Be the person your dog thinks you are". Now that gots me to thinking!

Holly, when I asked bout coming I didn't realize your kiddo's were still sick. Sorry to keep you away from Megan for so long. You're just so interesting and easy to talk to. Congrats on selling more today! Make room for the newbies!

Hope your kitty recovers quickly. Seems like there's always an animal or two needing special attention, doesn't it?

Btw - Anne, how is Lilli doing now? Any sign that she's learned a valuable lesson?

Pam don't worry..I thought she was getting better last night..she is but it's zapped her so much. She's very thin and not eating for a few days has made her weak which is just making it worse...got some food in her today..but as luck had it she wanted the watermellon we just bought yesterday I cut it open and it was rotten

.
You got the 3 right..and I didn't sell them to anyone else.My last was a no show but she is sick so still coming out later this week.
Kitty is doing much better today but I swear we may have 3 hairless cats soon..especially the long haired one
barnie.gif
how can such a little thing shed so much hair and not be bald.Tomorrow is finish the house cleaning day so I can really dig into sorting the kids clothes for my Niece...got to get it done before I leave for her house. No playing with fluffy butts in the incuabtor..ok I will have to have a chick fix or two.
You gave me a great idea though..while I was cleaning the kids bathroom closet I came across stuff I haven't drug out in years...so all that stuff if getting bagged and boxed for Joplin.I'll de-clutter my house and someone will have a bunch of those necessities every house needs when they get one.

My pens looked empty tonight but it freed up enough space to put those leghorn's outside. They are getting way too big for the chick house..and I have some leghorn pullets for sale! I bought 10 straight run chicks at TSC hoping I picked 6 pullets and I got all 10 pullets

goes to show the "tricks' to sexing can work well once you know the breed well enough to see them. Now those Silkies

I have to get better at chicken math...sold several this week..would love to do that every week but then I had to go spend the money to buy more

When Pam comes back to get hers she will be able to meet the new additions

Whew! Chatty, chatty, chatty!

Believer- thanks for asking about Lily. She is healing up nicely. I don't think the doofus has learned her lesson though. I was out in the backyard trimming tree branches and the long horn came up to the fence to beg leaves. Lily managed to leave her alone for about two seconds and then just had to charge the fence. Dumb dog. I fussed enough to make her back off. For now. To make it worse, the neighbor just added two young buffalo to the pasture. Sigh. Lily really hates buffalo.

Congrats on your new chickens! Holly has pretty babies. You will LOVE them. Yay!! More babies!!!

Matlock- I count the day I put them in as day one, but I don't think it really matters. Mine never hatch on day 21 anyway. They seem to always hatch on day19.
idunno.gif

Troyer- how are your babies doing?

Holly- Sheesh, woman! Sick kids and an amputated kitty! Fun times at your house. Hope things settle down for you soon.

My eggs ship out on Tuesday. Fingers crossed that they don't get fried in this heat.

Hope everyone is having a good weekend and has the day off tomorrow!

My four little chicks are doing great. I'm crazy in love with the two orpingtons and am kicking myself for not getting more. They are really helping distract my 6 year old from his broken arm. He would cuddle them all day if mean ole mama didn't make him put them back in the brooder. My 2 year old girl is content to point at their dropping, say "poo" and laugh hysterically (oh and she sneaks in a little two fingered head squeeze if I don't watch her close enough, poor chickies).

Confession: my obsession has already gotten really out of hand. I've been sleeping with the video baby monitor on the chicks so that I can watch them during my many night wakings. (2 year old still wakes a lot, little booger). Husband thinks I've totally gone insane.
