The Middle Tennessee Thread

I loaned my small bator and a dozen Rhodebar eggs to my sisters school to hatch. They hatched 5 pullets and 5 cockerels, so anyone wanting easily sexed Rhodebar chicks please let me know... I will not be keeping any of this hatch since I just had knee surgery about 10 hrs ago and will not be able to take care of them.

Dodger is home! He is moving slow and still isn't 100%, but he seems to be on the mend. I will dose him up with the meds for the next ten days, but the vet felt that he would recover faster in the comfort of his own home.
My vet has had four cats in the last month catch this disease. The other three died. The vet down the street in College Grove has had three cases this month. We are at the start of tick season so this is just getting started. Please please make sure you have tick treated your cats. This is a mean disease that is spreading like crazy!

To all of those wanting to go to the exotic livestock auction in Cookeville. here is a fair warning!

People bring in sick and dying birds in all day long what they are sick from can vary from worms or mites to
avian influenza or marek's.

There is no one at the doors to test ANY birds.

and everyone there are cigarette smoking, potty mouthed, rednecks that talk all day long about who's rooster would win in a fight!!

I know the people that own the place and trust me, they do not take any better care of their animals at home than what they do at the barn.

There are rarely any healthy birds that come into the barn and once they do come into the barn they catch something from other birds.

They are not many pure breeds that come in either everything is just barnyard mixes. Most common pure breds you see come in is either Silkies or Old English Games.

Not worth the risk if you ask me!

This was the second time we have gone. The first time the birds looked a lot better. I saw no birds I would have taken home, in fact I would have been ashamed to admit I owned them. I had gone to purchase a couple chicken tractors as the first time they had some nice ones which sold reasonably but was not the case today.
