Does anyone here want some roos? Judge me if you must, but I just can't eat them. I don't mind if someone else does! Or uses them for babies. 11 weeks old, so I suppose another month to fatten them. Sweet babies. I have 5 to give! Can meet at Bonnie's Barnyard or you can come to us in College Grove in the afternoon/evening. Message me if interested.

Too many ROOS.. That was a problem with egg growers in England. Their scientists did significant research and came to the conclusion the lower temperature did create more males than females.

They claimed; all fertile eggs laid had the same properties, both male and female characteristics. When 99.5+ temperature was achieved and "Steady" during incubation the females were dominate and one or two males in the clutch. Lower temps gave the researchers a majority of males Vs. females. I tried it and it worked.

The significant factor was helpful for Meat Poultry production Vs. Egg Production Hens.
Conclusion:> Some growers want hens for eggs and roos for meat.

I hatch all of my eggs at a steady 99.5-100 and I get 50% male and 50% female! :) So far this year I have hatched about 500 chicks and that ratio has been steady.

@DMRippy i finally stopped losing keets. Still dont know what caused it. Nothing apparent. Good food, clean water, no other birds or animals around them. Idk what the deal was. The only thing I can guess was something genetic or from the farm they came from. But I wanted to give you an update pic on the 2 that survived. And thank you for the help when I asked for it! Next time I decide to get guineas, I'm gonna stick with you!

Very Interesting. I had someone comment on how they did, when incubation at a high altitude Vs. seal level in Florida. What works for one may not work for all; but since we are producing egg laying hens, the 99.5-100 degrees works for us.

OK folks when I hatched out my lone CCLB I bought a chick to keep it company. Now this is a $1.50 special from the flea market and I have no idea what i the world it is. It is black/white like a Barred Rock, has feathers on its legs and almost no tail. I will get a pic tomorrow but if anyone has an idea please let me know.

Well if you need some more let me know..... I set 106 the other day and today I found the guineas nest.... 4.5 doz eggs in it too LOL. I have another batch coming in the mail for some coral blues. I am going to be SWIMMING IN KEETS! Probably will even be selling the colors to. I ordered 2 batches of colored eggs and they seem to be doing really well for shipped eggs and then 2 batches of Coral Blues but one is for an order. If I don't sell them I may have to set up another pen out in the back pasture and keep them penned..... we will see what happens.

I had a little visit with Troy (TinTennessee) today. He was in pretty good spirits but he is officially CHICKENLESS! I took the last of his chickens this afternoon. I took all of his little polish too. I got a Silver laced, an EE mixed Polish and a pair of White crested blacks. I think I will keep the White Crested Blacks.

They moved his wife to a rehab center and are hoping to send her home the end of this month

Please still keep him and his wife in your prayers. I think she is out of the woods but needs to get her mobility and speech back.

Not sure if I will be getting anymore for right now. I might see what kind of damage these 2 do since i dont have a ton of land. But definitely let me know when they are ready and I'll decide then! But by all means dont hold any for me since I'm not sure lol
