I am seeing light at the end of the tunnel! We almost have all my pens in the shop UP off the floor with wire bottoms. Now if I could just figure out how to control the flies YUCK! No more pine shavings or moving birds to clean pens. I think in a way it is going to be more work but in other ways so much easier. I have to rake it out about every 2-3 days but it is not that bad and does not take long. I could probably do ALL of them in a little over an hour. That is 22 pens.

Anyone interested in a free kitten? I have two six week old females! I'm in Brentwood.

Flies are awful here too… and my daughter in Nolensville says the same thing and she doesn't have chickens I've been hanging the liquid non pesticide traps in the coop and outside in the run. they work pretty well. Your space is so much bigger than mine so I don't know if it's possible for you.

I have some 7 week old chicks for sale. I hatched them on May 17th.

1 Buff Orphington Trio: $ 30
1 Buff Orphington/ Rhode Island Cross Trio; $25
1 Black Austrolorp Rooster: $8
2 Buff Cross Roosters: $5 each

Flies here are horrible as well. We have hung some traps but they are still everywhere! Today was the first day we let all 27 chickens out to free range, to say it was interesting is an understatement. I worried about them all day despite checking on them constantly. When it came time for their dinner and to go back in their pen 26 of them went in easily but of course one girl, a black sex-link got between the field fence and the chainlink fence for the back yard, there is about 6 inches of space. Do you think she would come out HAAAA. We chased her back and forth using a stick for almost a half hour before she came to the end and let me pick her up. Despite that I think it was a good experience for them and us. Our baby goat who weighs about 5 pounds could not figure them out and she had fun checking them out.

Thanks to the Co-op guy I think I might have control of the flies!

I replaces all the fly strips today and most were full in 30 mins.... that is how bad it was. The guy at the co-op told me to get the quickbait (might not be spelled right) So i put small cups of it around all the pens (maybe 20 cups) and I could see it working. The flies would go in and soon there were would be dead bugs in the cups..... YEAH! So we finished the coops/pens are all up off the floor and I had some plastic that was under a pen and a dead chick so I put that out on the floor with some of the bait on it (it smells like something dead but not strong) so the flies started to die in MASS..... so I cleaned all the pens and started to put the bait on the walkways and under the pens and the flies started to die in MASS..... THOUSANDS were on the floor dead or dieing. I expect tomorrow will be tolerable as far as flies go. I might have to fight them a few more weeks but a little goes a long way.

He told me the powder would probably work for a month. I will now start working on the flies OUTSIDE near the compost pile. If I don't they will migrate into the shop.

My daughters dog just got out and really wounded my Splash Maran….there is only a little blood but all the feathers on one side are gone and the skin is exposed. What can I do? Is there something I can put on it, or go to the vet for something……as long as I've been on here I've never had a problem like this and I don't know what to do.
