The Middle Tennessee Thread

We are getting an olive Egger, Easter Egger, Buff Orpington and a Barred Rock. I really wish I had orderd a Black cooper Maran as well now.

How many chickens do you have and how many are you getting in April?
Welcome to the thread! You may find BYC addictive. There needs to be a warning label. I started with 35 last April and I'm not even telling what the number is now. I tell my husband "about 50." To which he says, "I can count. I know there are more than that." That is the time to walk away.(and go check the incubator).

last April I had somewhere between 10-15....way over that now glad my husband doesn't care for now that is. He enjoys selling the eggs at his work. I just hatched some lil chicks out waiting to see if the last few hatch then gonna try Turkey eggs..

Hi everyone, sorry to interrupt the thread. Just wanted to say hello, I'm in West Nashville and come April will have my first baby chicks. I was just looking to find a group close to home and found you guys

Welcome….I think you'll really love this thread.

I have 16 pullets- BarredRock, blue laced red Wyandotte, crested cream Legbar, and a mix of CCL and white leghorn. I have two cockerels that are CCL and BLRW but I don't have them separated by breed. None of my pullets seem to want to be broody so I bought an inexpensive incubator and just had to try it out. So I took some of my eggs and put them in it and now have chicks in the brooder 7 that I hatched and 3 cuckoo marans that I bought at the co-op. I have 15 Black Java eggs in the incubator now. They are shipped eggs. I had been studying up on a really good dual purpose breed and decided to give them a try. Not too many people have them and that appealed to me too. But one thing I really like is having lots of colors in my egg basket. That's why I added those marans. Hope theirs will be dark. I'm guessing some of my brooder chicks,if girls, will lay olive eggs. We'll see. I know you will enjoy your chicks.

I'm for sure looking forward to it, i want a colorful egg basket to, that's why I wish I had ordered the Maran with the others. O well I might try and find one locally somewhere?

Well luckily the city will only allow me to keep 6 hens but I'm starting with 4 lol

Just found one of my little Marans dead. Those I hatched will be 3 weeks tomorrow and the three Marans I bought were 4-5 days younger. All were healthy appearing this morning. It had no visible injuries. I just went to look at them and it was lying on its stomach. I wish I knew why.
