Feeling your pain. I have one developing chick out of 22- paid over $100 for the eggs. Chick is not even a color I keep. I guess I may have to make an exception and have it cast in gold. LOL!
I have only had 1 nada hatch...I was warned not to buy from the seller. Packaging was horrible. Everyone of them had ruptured air cells. Paid a fortune for that group as well.
Should have learned my lesson but sometimes I have optimstic moments. Next time someone sees me bidding a ridiculous amount, SLAP ME SILLY!!!
The shipped eggs are a gamble statement is VERY TRUE

Lori did I maybe warn you about the eggs you speak of.

How's the little showgirl?

I did actually consider that, I made my little incubator and it works really well. I guess I haven't completely written the idea off, but I'm not sure right now I want to be stressed out over 600 eggs every 3 weeks.

Can you put up some pics of what you have so far? I'm specifically interested in the turner. I looked at the one on here, and all those switches and motors are just a little over my head. I mean I think I could figure it out, but it'd take me a year.

Good luck to you with yours though. I'd like to hear how it goes.

I haven't started actually building it yet. lol

I am still going over the plans and trying to find the right fit for me. The concept seems uber simple though. Here is the design I am ripping off. I will probably modify it a bit.

The top one is the one I am making. My main concerns are with the wiring and actually cutting the door panel out for a viewing panel.

People on BYC and YouTube reassured me though!

I'm back in TN just in time for this horrible heat.Found my 3 late day layers dead in the nest boxes last night.Hoping since everything else lays rather early none will be in nest boxes out of the fans reach when it gets sweltering today..as if it's not already.

You can buy organic feed at my feed store for the same price as Purina feed..they only carry the layer pellets but if you wanted the other stuff they would without a doubt order it on the next shipment in..my brain is cooked but it's that big name organic feed. Not nearly as fresh as the feed my feed store makes every day so my chickens eat that..plus it's cheaper they love it and do well on it and it supports our local people. They will even make you exactly what you want so I don't see how anyone can say Purina could be better and protein amount any added stuff including kelp they don't care. I don't worry about ever becoming certified organic-we have pressure treated lumber on our property and if you have any your not organic by rule among a long list of other stuff.

Emmalyn-I'm running around a lot this week playing catch up.I'll zap you an e-mail.
