He's a pretty good lil roo. He calls out warnings and he'll follow you all over the yard, but if you reach down to pet him, he'll tear you up. I can only assume that's due to my 7 and 9 year old boys!

I am a pennsylvanian that recently visited my mother in law in crossville, tn. is that considered middle tennessee? we went to the crossville flea market and i was surprised to see they had chickens for sale there...too bad we had a 10 hour drive home or i would have been buying some of those!!! i have never been to a flea market that was selling chickens. they also had ducks, goats, it was cool. although the poor goats were smooshed inside a really small cage. just wondering if any one had been to the fleamarket too?
we are thinking of moving there maybe in the next 5 years. we absolutely loved it there! talk soon

Im so confused right now..the only reason why I was thinking about rehoming her or both, because She likes to pick on my silkies..Two were found this morning with broken necks..( Or head poped off neck) and thought it was her..But my sister tells me the door to the tractor is crooked and had a nice sized hole that they poked their head through..But the silkies were on the other end when I found them... Did everybody make it through last night's storm okay? I had marble size hail here and more lightning than I think I have ever seen. It was scary there for a little bit. I ran out during a lull to check on the chickies (do NOT tell my mother that I am running about in electrical storms checking on chickens!). Everybody was in the coops except my silkie roo. He likes to sleep out in the run on a milk crate. Doofus was sitting there all soggy.

Thankfully there was a tarp over him to keep the worst of the rain off him. Silly chicken.

The rain was nice and it is a lot cooler out there this morning. How did everybody else do?

And the funkiest little mutt chicken that Southernbelle sent me (in egg form). I am now smitten with frizzles and want more!!! I'm hoping I can talk her into some frizzled EE eggs.

I need help.

Eggs that are shipped arrive but the post office is horrible to them. I bragged on the PO earlier and now I am regretting it.

I need someone/anyone/everyone to assist me in picking out the best to breed and which ones to put together. I thought I knew but now I am so not sure. Frustrated with the whole process of hatching shipped eggs, I think I should just put my best together and hope. Several of them I think may have too much fluff to breed so if nothing else--- who does AI?

I think it is just too darn hot for shipped eggs to live right now. Of the three sets shipped in here last month the first had 3 or 24 hatch, the second had 1 of 18 hatch, and the third had 6 of 18 hatch. Out of 60 eggs I have gotten 10 live chicks. Most of these eggs were really dark so I couldn't tell in the candling what had happened, but one set was cream colored. A bunch of them started developing and then had blood rings. The person that sent them wondered if perhaps they had started developing in transit because of the heat and humidity. Makes sense to me.

What breeds are you trying to pick from? Are you doing your silkies? Have you tried trimming all the fuzz off their little tushies? That always seems to help fertility. I've never tried AI, but I would be interested in hearing how it works in chickens.
