I raise purebred registered nubians

they are my favorite. The milk has a high butterfat content perfect for my cheese and soap making, not to mention i love all the color patterns

Cool. One of these days I want to add goats to my farmlet. I am considering Nubians, Sanaans and Nigerian dwarf. Perhaps a mix. Dunno. I've never had goats before so I'm trying to do the appropriate research on the front end.

Post some pictures of your babies. We are equal opportunity fawners over cute animals.

How much longer do you "eggsperts" think after they squat, before they start to lay?

Hi Donna - it's going fine, I hope. I've learned that I should join Candlers Anonymous because it's addictive seeing the little chicks moving around in the shells. Out of 25 eggs, there are about 17 that I think are still viable. I only had 4 EE eggs, and I don't think any of them are going to make it, but I don't trust my candling knowledge enough right now to decide definitey and remove them from the incubator. There is one Welsummer egg that is too dark for me to see anything inside it. Hatch day is next Monday - so just a little over a week to wait. My DH asked me if I wanted to go with him on a business trip that week. I said, WHAT??? Don't think so! After all this, there's no way I'm going to miss hatching day.

What have you got in the bator on lockdown now? Anybody else got the bator going?

These are my Barred blue and black rocks and barred ee. I put all the eggs in lockdown if I was in any doubt. As long as they don't smell give them a chance since we don't know what we are doing

I would hate to toss a viable egg because I don't know what to look for yet.

I am working on my next batch, Blue and Black Marans from Raven1 and maybe

Ok guys I lost my best black showgirl pullet last night to a predator. So it dug in and consumed the bird inside the run. All of the bird except wing, feet and breast bone. I locked everyone up last night but she must have been hiding in the run somewhere. I have been so busy packing I did not check wth a flash light. STUPID MISTAKE I WILL NOT DO AGAIN. Now I just want to catch and kill the stupid thing that killed her. So help me figure out what I am up against. I have a live trap ready with what is left of the bird and a can of tuna. I also have a 22 ready and am prepared to sleep out with the chickens but I want to know what to expect and the best time to get the **** thing. I am livid! LIVID! And I am so very sad I really loved this baby. She was going to Nationals! THis is a huge loss to me and my program. It also seems the chickens know as well they keep going over to the corner I found her in. How sad. I JUST FEEL AWFUL! AWFUL! These are not chickens they are my babies. My beloved babies I cuddle, rock and talk to daily. Several time a day.. JUST HELP ME CATCH THE THING THAT GOT HER PLEASE! I am thinking possoum!
