It's exciting to have the bator going! Mine should start hatching out in just a week! The BBR and NH/RIR eggs I got from you are looking good.

I am SO hoping I get some chicks from this hatch. I need to stop reading the Incubating and Hatching Eggs forum because I'm worrying about all the things that could possibly go wrong. The temp has remained constant at 100 degrees, and I dropped the humidity since I had it too high at the beginning. It's nerve-wracking!

I'm technically in Kentucky in Clinton County, but I work in Putnam Co Tennessee and am in Pickett/Overton counties in TN quite a bit. I raise Phoenix and Sumatra so I can't help you with the Orps, but there is a weekly livestock auction that often has hundreds of chickens for sale in Cookeville (Putnam Co) and I've seen some fantastic Buff Orps there. You buy them by the head, bring your own cages (although they do sell some of the cages, no guarantee you can get one before the chickens you want come up for bid!). The sale dates to find the best and most chickens are the Exotic Sale dates, which happen 4x a year but be prepared to spend all day and half the night if you want to see all the chickens go through - the one I went to early September had thousands of chickens - fortunately the ones I wanted I "only" had to wait until 6pm to bid on (I got there at 9am).

The weekly sale is Tuesday evenings and chickens start selling around 5:30 I think, in the secondary ring/barn (horses and tack sell in the main barn/ring). Just a warning though, it's still somewhat of a backwoods environment - check the chickens closely prior to bidding and be prepared to quarantine. Springtime brings chicks to the weekly sale, this time of year are a lot of half grown chickens and older culls.

One of these days I'd like to see a poultry swap meet in this area, as the auction is long and tiresome. I'd rather meet the owners, hear what they have to say about the birds and then buy outright if I wished, etc. Maybe we can organize one in the spring, at Tractor Supply.

Donna-if you go home with 20-30 when you come here maybe it's time you visit again

I'm going through the pens now to make my final cut backs for the winter and with all of my bators off I won't be offering more I do have some nice 3-4 month old's that I will be parting with pullets and roos.I'm still deciding on if I will be selling any more laying age.

Chick change your posting before it's seen..sales are not allowed here and like I said Pitt Bulls...now if you just mention you have those birds looking for a new address that's not a formal sale posting

I would suggest that we do a swap/trade for our next meetup, but I'm pretty sure we are all trying to get rid of birds. Oh well.

Want me to see if the co-op would be interested in another swap day?
