If it will not hurt them the marker will be fine. I usually use velcro but the are just tooooooooo tiny, at two weeks now it should be fine to put the velcro on and it is adjustable

I have had the same tags on my marans since about 6 weeks with no issues.

No marker won't hurt them...we always mark the leg when I worm before we let them go so we make sure we don't grab the same bird twice. It will stay on a few weeks or if it gets wet not as long.Just don't use red..dumb chickies

I just listed a bunch for sale on CL
Blue Copper Marans Pullet,Laying bred pullets.EE's, BLRW, Silkies, Bantam Cochins, White leghorn pullet and I may even part with a few layers who knows. There is even a few young free roos
and small chicks..

The Blue Marans is spoken for..the early worm got that bird

IF I were to sell my mottled's it would cost you quite a bit..all are shown or sq that I have left. They were brought in from top show breeders all over the Country.
I don't have much in the laying hen department..most everything is pullet around 3-4 months old now.

Ok.... I know you want pic but I forgot the camera and I didn't get any pics anyway... tomorrow I will get them out of the hatcher

13 of 14 hatched... One had some trouble but I think it will be fine. the one that hasn't hatched I didn't see any movement either so

But again only a hand full have a spot on their head.... what gives???? Is it because they are blue and it is just hard to see? ALL of these came from a BR Roo, 4 are with and EE pullet all are black with only two having a spot. Out of 9 Rocks that hatched only 3 or 4 had spots.

The two weeks old are still not showing spots either only 3 of six had spots. This is making sexing very hard. Can you feather sex BR too?

Chick pics tomorrow I promise!!! The two weeks old too cuz they are too pretty!

The one chick is really crusty and had a bit of pasty butt because of that so I cleaned that up really well and put some oil on him to try to stop it again. Any other tips to get the crud off of him? I have been soaking him with very warm water in my hands to keep him warm and under a heat lamp and removing anything yucky I can. Dry him off with a paper towel and put him back in the hatcher to dry again, but I don't think I got it all. Should I just leave him alone?

The best way to get crusty glue off is an old toothbrush..it will get it all off without chilling the chick and it even gets out the loose fluff making less chicken "dust" for a day or so.
Barred Rocks are easily sexed by the width of the bars..roos bars are much wider than pullet bars and even the coat fluff is lighter..black barred roos are more of a gray or silver color and blue barred is a light blue. Now,blue rock head spots are there but less noticeable because of the blue shading. After a few hatches you train yourself to seeing it easier.Black barred pullet dots can be very small but they are noticeably black beside a roo you can really tell the difference. Also leg color on black boys are much lighter than pullets at hatch...on blue it's not a reliable indicator.
The 2 week old's should have enough barring on the feathers to tell what you have

So the first hatch I only got one Black Barred rock and it is a ROO light legs and smudged spot. The other 5 are blue and I can't even really find them in the bunch

They were supposed to have spot!!!! 2 do and I think they are roos the spots are kinda smudgy too but it is really hard to tell.

The good news the neighbor want a BR roo so I will grown this one up for her. The blue Barred roos are MINE till I can see who is the better looking one

this was one of my project to breed and am SOOOOO Excited to see what I will get.

The BR roo over the EE still not sure about that spot issue but it will all work out. If they have a pea comb they will be with the EE and if they have a strait comb they will go in with the layers
